"I would not say it was wasting talent. You were lucky that you are lucky to know a craft and be a dragonrider, as am I. Besides, there may come a time when people with crafting knowledge are needed in the Weyr. I myself have found healing knowledge more than useful here. When Sharieth hatched she was near death and then their were the poisonings..." A sad expression crossed her face. So many had died. She knew better than to blame herself but there were some things she wished she had done better.
Rue was not sure if G'del knew much about Ponaa's recent past but he should know of the poisoning. That was very recent history. Luckily, neither Ruet or Sharieth ate the poisoned food, because as usual, Ruet had found some work that needed to be done rather than eat the mid day meal.

"Oh, I never said it was a waste. I just wished I would have chosen perhaps something I liked better." He wasn't sure if there would have been another choice if he had to start all over again. He smiled, "I mean, the hard work was good for me. It gave me a lot. One of my masters had said that because he wanted me to go on with my studies." He listened, he had heard trickling of poisoning, but he didn't know much at all. He knew enough, as he was assured that he would be safe at Ponaa, but he was never told many details.

"Oh? I have been interested in healing since I was very young. What were you more interested in that you would give up natural talent for?" Not that she was trying to get his life history but the more you knew about people the better. It was easier to know their personality and what they could do for the Weyr.
Rue wasn't sure if she was crossing any boundaries as she had no idea what his past was like. This could start sounding like a formal interview... Ruet knew she was all too formal with people. It wasn't that she didn't like them, she simply did not know how to converse in a more laid back fashion.

He smiled at her, "You got me. I did like blacksmiting quite a bit, however, my mind kept lingering on dragons. It was the only thing I really wanted, and I couldn't focus all my attentions to the Smith Craft. It would be unfair to stay with out giving my best." He hadn't expected her to ask him, so his answer might not be as detailed as she might have wanted. He looked at his hands and shook his head. They were rough, but strong, and he did learn his discipline from smithy, he owed the Craft. "I gave up a future of becoming a master for Solarith, actually for the mere chance of Solarith. I swaped one life for a very different one of dragonriding. I think it was a good trade though. Wouldn't you agree?"

That was the difference... he had a parent who was a dragonrider and she had rarely even seen a dragon up at High Reaches. How could one dream of having that sort of life when there were more practical things to be doing. It did help, she supposed, having a family that was in healing. If she had not been close to death once as a child, healing might never have become so important to her. The environment one lived in could certainly change things.
Ruet looked at him a moment before answering. In truth it had taken her a while to come to terms with impressing, especially to a Queen dragon. "It is our choices that shape who we are. You choosing dragonriding means that it was the right choice for you, though perhaps not for everyone." Even she had second guessed her decision to come here. Once she had impressed, she knew there was no going back, only forward. "I would never have had the chance to be a master so our situations are different there. Making the choice should have been easier for me though I confess I would have preferred at the time to have had someone else make it for me."

He paused looking at the ground in front of him. What to say to that? Had he done something wrong? He looked straight at her, and said with apologetic emotion, "I am sorry if I had implied that my descision was the only correct one." For once in his life a woman had made his tongue go still. He did not know what to say, he had only meant. . . well it didn't matter. He was still impressed with Ruet, few women played with his words or ever left him with out remark. Few really even tried. Then he smiled softly, "I guess I did not know that we were looking for similarities in ourselves and our backgrounds, milady." He paused again, "I didn't get a choice in being sent off to a craft. My father, not my mother, insisted that I go to learn, just like his father made him. Here's my confession to you, I merely chose which craft my father would send me to. I chose the Smith Craft to please my father, and to make him take more of an interest in me. That is what I meant to say before when I wished I chose a craft I liked better."
He leaned back in his chair, "But I try not to have regrets. I cannot change my past, and I do not like to dwell on things even though I do sometimes. Once again, I am very sorry if I have said anything wrong. I am betting that you would have been brilliant in any field you would have chosen to work in. But I also confess that I am glad you ended up here, in Ponaa. Even this talk has made me feel more comfortable with my past. I appreciate it, Ruet."

She realized she had caused him embarrassment. Luckily he was not about to let her get away without her own fair share of humility. She flushed slightly before saying, "I did not mean any discomfort. There is no need for forgiveness for there was no trespass." She realized that she had often expected people to just know what she was thinking as if they too lived in the dream world that was her mind.
"I was thinking our pasts similair when in reality they are different, that is why I said what I did. I understand the need to feel accepted by ones father, did I not do the same thing?" She had followed her father enough to learn everything he could teach her about healing and in the end it caused him to take such interest in her that he wished she had been a son to send for a journeymanship.
Flushing again at his last remarks she smiled, "I think we become in the end, exactly what we were meant to be, after all it is our choice." She knew she was right about that. Though as a healer she had many mroe regrets than she would ahve as a simple dragonrider. "I'm actaully quite interested in becomming involved in dragonhealing. If only I had the time." She wished she did... in truth once Tujal graduated she might just have that time.
"We are pleased to ahve you here as well, G'del. Your Bronze too. I know Lyrai would have liked to meet you today if her schedule was not so full. Perhaps another day though." She knew Lyrai liked to check on the new Bronzers just as much as Ruet... after all, they were potential mates and leaders, that meant it was imperative they get to know all of them. At least a little. This man, she was sure, she would like to know more of.

He smiled at her, she was so proper, it was refreshing after other women who tried to impress him, one or two that tried to seduce him, and some distanced themselves from him. "I think dragonhealing would be suitable. You seem very caring. I'm sure any dragon would be lucky to have working on them. And as for time, if I can help you, tell me right away. I can do organising and things in my free time. I have wing practices most everyday," He watched her face, hoping she wouldn't outright refuse. He had his chance at the Smith Hall, and she was still living hers. She had such passion, he could tell, but perhaps he was reading too much into it. If he could help her, with no motivation than to perhaps help out a potentially brilliant healer, he would try. "but, if you tell me or teach me, I can do somethings until a more qualified replacement can be found."
He hoped he did not sound to forward, but rather a business deal. Of course, if friendship came with it, he would certainly not complain. He found Ruet enchanting, but he knew that she might be perfectly content with the friends she had now.

G'del certainly knew how to flatter. Ruet thought about that a moment. She was certain he would have scores of women after him here. He wanted her to pursue another craft, though closely related to her first. Shareith would be threatening to flame her by now if she knew that the Bronzerider had offered his services to help her. How could she refuse such a genuine offer?
"Thank you for the offer. I don't know if I can teach you how to do part of my job without having you infringe on the seperation between woman's duties and mens." She added with consideration for his statue. Most Bronzeriders would rather not deal with womanly duties. That was why the Weyrwomen did them not the Weyrleader or the Weyrsecond.

It was true, G'del did not like 'women' chores. He didn't take care of children, nor did he clean much, nor did he cook at all. He was a bronzerider, afterall, not a greenrider. He would have to think about that. He looked at her seriously, "So what do these duties entail?"

"Well it does change from day to day. Mostly we have to take care of supplies, people and of course research old musty records that have long outgrown their usefullness." She was transposing some to newer records as some of them were decaying. It was suprising how much she actually didn't know that she actually did. Every day was indeed different. No wonder she couldn't come up with a straight answer.
Smiling she said, "No need to help me though. Tujal will graduate eventually. Then we will have another person to help with the tasks of Weyrwomen."

G'del winced, he was not sure if he was exactly good with those things. But not wanting to be discouraging, he offered up himself anyways. He had never met Tujal before, but from what whisperings he had heard, she was interested in other things like fighting and men. Yet he wanted no part of gossiping so he decided to forget anything he had ever heard of Tujal. He kneeled then, and bowed his head and outstretching his arms, "I am your servant, Lady." He knew that these chores would be tedious and probably not like it at all, but he felt compelled to do so. Perhaps he was just trying to impress her, but he preferred to think that he was being noble and kind.

She wasn't sure what to say for a moment she was silent. He was kneeling before her. Never had she thought this would actual happen, as much of a dreamer as she was. Rue placed her hand on his shoulder in appreciation for what he said. She was still speechless a moment more. Well she ought to say something. What could she say? He wanted to help her that much? F'sen avoided more work than he had to do, which was normal.
She should command him to rise and try to be the lady she pretended to be in her dreams. It wasn't her though. Something needed to be said but it was taking its time to come to her mind. "Thank you. I shall remember that when the time comes and I need help." It wasn't an eloquent speech. In fact she was embarrassed that she had not known what should be said in that situation.

He smiled before standing before her, "I would be rather pleased if you would remember me." Was it the new environment who made him more open and flirty? He took his seat again and looked at her. If other bronzeriders saw him doing woman work, he'd never hear the end of it. He'd never have respect from his wing. He wondered about his vow, and if he would be able to keep it. Was this good feeling about Ruet worth it? It had to be, he never, ever broke a promise. Who knows, Solarith might need her care one day. He used such thoughts to mask other reasoning. . .

She smiled at his words. Rue wasn't exactly a flirtatious woman but lately she did see men more and more and not just as friends or acquaintances. Perhaps it was just something going on in her mind. She was unhappy in her current mating...so why should she not be noticing men? That was Sharieth's side of the argument usually. Again she was lucky her Golden beauty was not awake.
"If you would like, sometime, I'm sure Sharieth would love to meet Solarith. She's always looking for a new friend." That's right. Friend. Ruet had so few of them. It was hard to balance work and social life while dealing with other personal issues.
