Ruet was restless again. She had no desire for sleep and so she left her weyr and her sleeping dragon to go down to a place she felt more comfortable. The Gold rider wore a blue nightgown and a gray robe. Her feet made no sound as she walked quietly down to the stables.
Finally, open space and no one to ask her to do anything. She entered the dimly lit stable with little on her mind except relaxation. Her blue eyes studied each runner with an idea of which ones she liked. Quiet though she had been, Rue couldn't help but get the feeling she was being watched. 'Stop being paranoid.' She told herself in her mind as she stopped to pat a quaint little bay. The dainty thing was probably just nearing two turns by Ruet's reckoning Her own tastes ran toward taller steeds.
Oh, now there was a good runner. She let her hand fall on the neck of the ebony one at the end. He was tall, well muscled and had an intelligent eye. Rue found herself dreaming she was riding the stallion across the plains of Keroon or maybe even through fields undiscovered. She would truly be free then to do whatever she pleased. The stallion, growing impatient with her petting, snorted and pushed her hand away.
