Panthea was not sure at all why she was wandering about the weyrs looking for a bronzerider who probably didn't give a shard about her. But she knew she wanted to talk to him, and she had never felt this way before. But what would she say when she met him again? What was her excuse for bothering him? It was the fact that he intrigued her, and she wanted to meet him again. She hoped that he wouldn't object too much, but then again it was so much fun to banter with him. She smiled to herself, her heart was racing, she could feel it fluttering underneath her ribcage. Why was she so nervous? Probably because she was about to look for a bronzerider, and she was a candidate, and this was highly unorthodox. Panthea looked around, remembering which weyr was R'dir's. She bit her lip, her hand just above the door, hesitating.
Panthea got the nerve and knocked, and then waited to see if he would answer the door. She was still trying to think of what she would say when he did open. And she hoped dearly that he didn't have a woman in there. If she did, Panthea would probably just die on the spot of embarassment.

R'dir was just stepping out of his shower when he thought he heard a knock at his door. Lorn?
The candidate girl we took to the beach. R'dir sighed. What did she want now? And which "she" was it? Just keep your mouth shut and go talk to her. The rider looked in surprise at his dragon. Lornath simply put his head back on his claws and feigned sleep.
"Okay," he said, drawing out the latter syllable. It was odd for the dragon to behave in such a way. R'dir tightened the towel around his waist and went to the door. Perhaps the semi-nakedness of the rider would scare her off.
Unlikely. She's a gold candidate. They're brave at heart. Ah, so not the green candidate. No. It would be either Raelwyn or Panthea, and he had a shrewd guess as to which.
He opened his door and looked out. Panthea. Opening the door all the way, he said, "Can I help you, Candidate Panthea?" One eyebrow was raised and, since he hadn't dried off all the way, water droplets sheened on his dark bronzed skin.

With out missing a beat, Panthea said, "I hope so. Will you care to let me in? Or shall we talk in the hall, you with naught but a towel?" If she weren't so nervous, she would have walked straight past him in the room, but as it was, she wasn't going to be more brazen than she had to be. At least not for now. Plus it bought her some more time to work on her motive for the visit. She did take this opportunity to check out his body again. It was pleasing. She hadn't even bothered to grin, but she had wanted to really badly.
Her skin was so light, but the sun had done dark wonders for his, and she fought with herself about if she would have rather him wipe away those o so distracting water droplets or if she could appreciate how it added to his physique. She nearly blushed. Panthea hoped she would be let in soon and not left to the prying eyes of the Weyr much longer.

R'dir saw the determination to talk in Panthea's dark blue eyes, and sighed. She did have beautiful eyes, rather like his own, but with more sky-like quality. His shoulders almost slumped, and he clutched at his towel to keep it on as he leaned out the door beyond to make sure no one else was in the hall. It was a clear corridor, so he sighed again and stepped back, allowing her to enter first as was befitting for a person with manners. "Come in, then," he said, almost grimacing. The naked technique hadn't worked.
Lornath's wedge head rose immediately from its resting place and looked at the girl with blue whirling eyes. He said naught, but gave a draconic mumble and laid back down. Bout time some female graced the presence of this weyr. R'dir ignored him.
"What can I do for you today, m'lady?" he asked, turning to her after shutting the door. If he heard rumors through the weyrhall about her visiting him, he would be unhappy. "Please, have a seat. There are chairs abounding." Fall, she was already inside his weyr, might as well make her comfortable.

She smiled then, at seeing him be all worried as if some one would see her going in. And she felt a little unsure of herself for a moment. Maybe she shouldn't persue this. Maybe this was all wrong and she should just excuse herself. Maybe. . . Maybe. . . But maybe didn't get her anywhere. If she wanted anything she would have to go out and get it for herself. No more time wasting just waiting. 'Be more aggressive,' she told herself.
He offered her a spot to sit, a graciously she took on, and looked at him for a moment before speaking. She wasn't sure if she could go on with this. What kind of story was she supposed to weave, well she better just wing it lest he get suspicious of her. "I was just seeking some advice. You seem pretty witty, and more experienced than myself, so I was wondering if you might be able to help me out a bit with a question. I guess I wanted to ask you because we all went to the beach and I got to know a little bit. . . but that's not what I came here to say."
'Stop stalling,' she told herself. 'Get on with it.' She felt a little light headed as she got herself ready for a hypothetical story. If it bought her time with him, then it would be worth it, right? "So I was just wondering, if a girl likes this other boy, should she wait on him to make the first move? I mean, the said boy possibly likes another girl, or so said the first girl's friends. Maybe something better to ask is, do guys like it when girls take the initiative and make the first move? My friend is worried sick over this and I have no advice to give her. So I was just wondering if you could help out."

R'dir looked at the girl expectantly. She was stuttering and groping for words. "What, precisely, did you come here to say then?" He almost chuckled at her ineptitude of speech.
Then she told her story of the boy and the girl and the friends, and completely lost her. As he sat, he was silent, trying to sift through her ridiculous teenage words. I swear, it's like they speak a whole different language.
You are not too far removed from that, rider Mine.
I know. "I'm not sure what you mean by the first part, but I can answer the second question well enough." He paused for reflection. "Some males do like for a woman to take a little initiative. Others, however, believe a woman's place is to be subordinate and let a man do all the work," he said, his tone barely disguising his disgust for the latter. "Your friend should do what she wants and if the boy she's after doesn't like it, I'm sure he'll make it known and she can find someone else. She shouldn't change herself for some young man." He smiled ruefully, remembering full well his own teenage days and the amount of young women who promised they would change themselves for him. He'd never liked any of them, for that one simple fact. "Trying to be someone you're not is a waste of the person you are."
Lornath listened. Quite a mouthful for you, Mine.
I know.

Panthea tried to analysize every thing he said. Rather plainly, he liked a girl who could be herself, and he also seemed to like women with a little initiative. There was a slight tone change as he mentioned the subordinate woman. Okay, she had an idea now but what was her next move? She never got that far. She had just been worried about the initial conversation, and now she was stuck. For now, "I'll be sure to tell her that. . . She'll be glad to know. I think she's the kind to take initiative, though."
She wanted to figure out if he were chasing anyone but she didn't want to be totally blunt. She smiled lightly, "So did your lady make the first move? I pray I'm not too bold, sir, but it would help if I gave my friend an example."

R'dir quirked an eyebrow. "Panthea, I have no lady, nor do I pursue one." He would have thought his general, over-all demeanor would indicate that. "I'm generally not the sort most women would want in their lives. I tend to be rather...phlegmatic, I'd say."
She may have other motives for asking such questions, Mine, Lornath told him. R'dir nodded almost imperceptibly.
I know.
Know everything, do you? Well, I'll just stop putting in my mark's worth. The dragon harrumphed and curled up to go to sleep. R'dir stopped himself from laughing.
R'dir sat back in his chair, making himself comfortable for what was bound to be an incredibly long afternoon. This young woman had the proclivity to speak, but he would listen as long as she needed an ear to listen.

Panthea felt a weight lift off her shoulders as he spoke. So he had no woman to share his bed, that was a relief. She would not want another woman after her for revenge. She smiled, this would be her chase then. She would have to go after him, against the traditional male chase female senario. Well, she could be aggressive enough, she had to be, if she really wanted him. And for once in her life she really felt certain about something other than wanting a queen.
She grinned teasingly, "That surprizes me, bronzerider. I suppose there are plenty of women that wants you. You probably don't notice how they look at you, or that they hover around your door." She was not sure if this was true, but she decided she could maybe try to flirt or something.

R'dir almost smirked. "That is not so. You are, in fact, the first female to visit this weyr in a very long time." He looked away, and his eyes settled on his bureau. "Keep talking. I have to get dressed." He rose and went to the chest of drawers. This would be the tricky part. He opened the top drawer with one hand while using the other to hold his towel. He pulled out underwear and pants only, seeing no point to dirty a shirt. Shutting the drawer, he saw himself to the bathroom. "Talk louder, m'lady," he said, grimacing. Louder meant that there was a higher chance of someone hearing his company.
He quickly dried all the way off and pulled on the clothes. Much better, he thought. He exited the bathroom, still shirtless, but plus pants. "In any case, why would you care if there were women beating down my door?" He snickered.

"That is not so. You are, in fact, the first female to visit this weyr in a very long time."
Panthea's eyes shone for a mere moment. So then she would not be hunting on another woman's land. She smiled lightly when he asked her to keep talking. But about what? Well she wanted to get to know him better, but didn't want to seem too obvious. She talked a little louder, there was a playful tone to her voice, "Why is that, dear bronzerider, do you scare them all off? I wouldn't be surprized, milord, you seem a little distant. Not that it's your fault or anything. . ." She smiled slowly, "I'm sure you're a heartbreaker, aren't you, R'dir. That's why there's not much competition around."
Oops, did she say competition? No time to take it back now. She flushed when he asked her why she was asking. He had snickered, and she covered up her slight embarassment with a grin of her own, "I just wanted to make sure there wouldn't be women wanting to beat me down when I leave here if they think I'm trying to move in on their bronzerider. You see, I'm looking out for my own well being."
This was a blatant lie, but she didn't care, it was her way of flirting. Whether he got that would be his own problem. If he didn't pick up on it, then she could just leave, no harm done, but nothing gained but a rather interesting evening.

R'dir's face remained carefully neutral. This blasted girl was trying some sort of guile on him now, he knew. He wasn't stupid. Her talk of competition only furthered his conviction that she was on his trail. "I don't have any knowledge of being a heartbreaker. Most people are smart enough to stay away from me," he told her unsmilingly. Did this girl just not get it? He was tired, sad, and unhappy. It would take a woman greater than what he believed she was to change all of that. There was a lot of history to get over, and he wasn't sure he was ready, or ever would be ready, to let go.
He ran a hand through his generally neat hair, and sighed. "Candidate Panthea, why don't we get right down to business, hm?" he said. R'dir was never one to beat around the proverbial bush. "Why are you really here? I don't buy you story about your 'friends' for a moment, since every time I see Candidate Raelwyn, she is on G'del's arm, and Tor...Toya," he said, correcting himself quickly, "is far too timid to ever land herself in such a predicament as you have outlined." He half-smiled at the young woman. "Why don't you stop trying to feed me lies and just tell me what you want."

Panthea stiffened, all of a sudden ready to just leave. Shard this man. She bit the inside of her lip, she didn't have to go through this agony and embarassment. Panthea knew it was obvious that she liked him and his attitude reflected what he thought about that. She wouldn't dare flush, no she would not appear weak, not now. This was a giant mess and she wasn't sure she wanted any part of it anymore. She folded her hands and was about to excuse herself when she stopped in her tracks.
"Why are you really here?"
What was she to say to that? Well she was determined more than ever not to look like a fool even though she was. Ever since she was young she was sure that if she only tried her best she could do anything she wanted to. With a little work she would have the world at her fingertips. Unfortunately this was not so. She had been working her entire life and found it wasted some how. And now she was faced with this daunting task. Could she work on him to make him warm up to her? Probably. Was she up for it? Nope. Right now, she just could not handle it anymore. She could not handle this situation anymore. Panthea grasped at any dignity she had left and answered him evenly, "So you are calling me a liar, Bronzerider?"
She did not wait for him to answer her and went on. "I had thought that you might enlighten me somehow, but I fear I am mistaken. Coming here tonight for anything was a grave mistake on my part. I only hope my reputation for merely asking a question would not taint my reputation too badly. And just so you know," She had to stop herself from sneering, and leaned her own unsmiling face towards his, "To my knowledge, Rael is not mated to the Wingleader. Nor is she seeing him on a romantic level." Rael had told her of a crush but nothing more. She would be sure to ask for details when she returned.
"And as for Toya, I doubt she'd ever be timid with a man!" Panthea stood then. She stepped towards the door, and said with a foolish grin, "Thank you, R'dir, for all your help. I think you have certainly saved me from a big mistake." She didn't even bother to hid the fact with 'my friend.'

R'dir laughed. It felt good, and he didn't laugh very often. This girl...this little bundle of hormonal urges...well, she was interesting. And he certainly hadn't meant to run her off, not quite yet, anyway. It might happen, but not until he was done observing her. "Oh, Panthea," he said, rising. A smile, highly unnatural on his generally melancholic face, arose on his lips and he turned it on her. A spunky lass, for certain, he thought to himself. Lornath heard.
Indeed. I like her, he said, his bronze wedge-head rising from his claws where he had been feigning sleep. He turned to look at her more closely.
Do you? Well, that surely merits a bit more interaction with her then. The unconscious that was that Panthea was nothing like Tora and therefore, he would not be desecrating his sister's memory. R'dir walked over to her and took her by the shoulders to guide her back to the chair.
As he looked at her, though, a foreign and not-so-unpleasant urge overtook him. Her eyes shimmered angrily, which only made his smile deepen. Beautiful. He kissed her.
After a second, he drew back, eyes wide. He removed his arms from her shoulders. "Um," he stammered. It was the first time in a long time that R'dir was at a loss for words. Generally he spoke so few that they saved themselves up and lended to eloquence, but now, he was floored. "Um," he said again. R'dir didn't know what to do except just look at her. The seconds that passed between their lips and her words seemed like eons.

"Oh, Panthea,"
She turned around, sure he was going to have some maelstrom of curses and angry words to spout back to her. She stood rigid, awaiting what he would say, but words never came. He took her by the shoulders and she felt the want to comply, so she let him lead her off to the chair. Once seated, she looked at him expectantly. He must really want to lecture her. Her eyes shone and she had folded her arms in front of her. Then it happened.
He kissed her and she was taken by surprize. Be cool, don't be stupid, she thought, and her jaw loosened and she did not object to his kiss. Her heart was pounding uncontrollably and her eyes opened as he pulled away, wide with awe. There was a pause, and he kept saying um, and she felt like she was in dreamland. Except this was much better than being mauled. She grabbed shoulders near the neck and above the collar bone and pulled him to her, kissing him on the lips, more passionately than she thought herself capable.
She let go of him after and took a deep breath, "Well that was unexpected, delightful none-the-less."
