Toya was glad to be here, the food smelled very enticing. The hall seemed huge to her, as she wondered where she was to sit. She was again lost. How am I going to impress, if I can't find anything..? Toya looked for anyone she might recognize, not that she knew anyone here... Her stomach growled. I really need to learn everything.
Toya was sad about the latest hatching, She had not been able to get to the grounds, as she was lost. Now she was sad, those dragonets should have been healthy, and she should have been there. That was why she wore red and black today. She knows where the grounds are now, but she thought that now might be too late. There was another clutch on the grounds, but was she meant for one of them? she didn't know. Toya sighed. Her hair was falling in her eyes, as she came back to herself. It was a gradual comeback, not sudden, because nothing really caught her attention. All she really knew at that moment was hunger, and sadness.
Toya looked again, trying to find where she was supposed to sit, she didn't want to miss yet another meal.

Panthea recognized Toya from the other morning. One person asked Panthea if the girls were rivals. This was very untrue. She did not want to be rivals, she had enough of them as it was because of she was a queen hopeful. Panthea saw her looking a bit lost, as if she didn't know where to go. Panthea put on a charming smile and approached her, Panthea nodded to a table set off to the side, "Oh, Toya, do sit with me?"
Panthea had been at the Weyr for many turns now. She had known every mainstream passage way as well as her own hand. She even had taken time when she was younger to memorize some of the lesser known, 'secret' corridors. It was a perk from being raised in a Weyr by rider parents. Or rider parent. She had not seen her father thanks to Weyrs for years. But then again she wouldn't be the same girl with out the Weyrs. Panthea had respected P'non for being a bronzerider, but she loathed him for just letting her mother go. He should have fought for his love, followed or something! He was a bronzerider. He should have been braver, more courageous, and more noble than anyother man. And yet he was a coward, as Panthea viewed him. And boy did Panthea despise cowards. But enough about that worm.
Panthea walked to the table with her food and nodded to Toya to sit across from her. "I don't think we've really been formally introduced, I am that 'Panthea Chickie'." She laughed a little, remembering what Jennah had called her. "But really, I'm Panthea, but my friends all call me Panna. I would be delighted if you would. You must be new to this Weyr, where did you come from?"

Toya recognized the girl quite easily, she hoped the girl didn't hate her. Toya didn't want any enemies here, she had enough back at Ista Weyr. When asked to join, Toya nodded halfheartedly, not wanting, yet wanting company at the same time. Toya was sad at the moment. Anyone at Ista Weyr would know that from the clothes she wore, but this was not Ista Weyr, it was Ponaa Weyr.
Toya sat where the girl suggested, not wanting to offend her, or lose her company. All Toya really wanted was food, and a long walk along the beach. She needed to find a goon fishing spot. Then she wouldn't have to be hungry when she was lost, but Toya wanted someone to fish with, a friend in this new place.
Toya's thoughts were interrupted as the girl introduced herself. Then, when asked, Toya answered, "I'm from Ista Weyr. Thanks for helping me, everything is so different here." A sigh escaped her, Toya couldn't help it. "Do you like fishing?" Toya asked, her thoughts returning.

Panthea smiled at her, 'You're welcome. I guess when I was new here I had my mother to take care of me. I'm pleased to have been of service." She paused looking at Toya, her style of clothing was a bit different but Panthea did not comment on them. Panthea was not sure of the other girl seemed hesitant or if it was her own wild imagination, but still Toya had trusted her, so she was immensly pleased. Maybe, if she were lucky, she might have a new friend in Toya. Panthea thought back to what she knew about Ista-wasn't anything too specific, just perhaps climate, weather, where it was on a Pernese map, but nothing really too politcal or economical-which she was still interested in learning. "Ista, eh? On Big Island. Is it true that it had dragon weyrs on the outside of the mountain?"
Of course she had heard it was true from others, but she wanted to include Toya more in the conversation. And she didn't want to give the impression of being a know-it-all. Panthea cared what others thought of her and was generally interested in people. Panthea often encouraged people to speak for themselves. Besides, the girl might add more to the story-if there was much of a one. Panthea loved stories. "I'm originally from Fort myself, however I've been here since I was six turns old, so really, Ponaa is my home. Like I've never lived anywhere else."
Because of Panthea's intrest in learning all she could, and because her mother saw fit to teach her these things, Panthea had learned to set bones, reduce fever, make numbweed, cook a little, even embroider and sew a bit, but most recently, she had gotten another candidate to start teaching her to juggle. She had yet to try her hand at smithy, fishing, farming, or even master any of her talents. A jack of all trades but a master at nothing. Of course Panthea had wished she could focus on one craft, but the only craft she had ever really wanted to go into was the Beastcraft Hall. She shook her head, "I've never been fishing. I heard it's quite relaxing though. Maybe one day I'll go."

Toya was glad Panthea knew her way around. "Would you mind helping me learn all of these corridors and rooms?" Toya asked, as she needed to ask someone, and Panthea seemed friendly. Oh no, I was flirting with her man!"I'm sorry for flirting with your man, I thought he was single..." Toya added.
Toya laughed at the question about Ista Weyr, she thought everyone knew about the weyrs. "Yes, you didn't know?" Toya was not trying to be mean, and her tone was a little lighter than it had been. Toya knew all of Ista Weyr, she was glad to be talking about something she knew about. The slight joy didn't last long, though. If she didn't impress soon, she would have to go back to Ista, and the poor holders, who were starving, just to have the Weyr to demand more of their scarce food. Toya hated that. Toya was glad to be here.
After Panthea's comment on the fishing Toya jumped to invite her."How about one day this sevenday?" she asked. Toya would by then have found a good spot. She had an eye for fishing spots.

Panthea blanced and was silent for a few moments, trying to think back about what she was referring to when it hit her. At the moment Panthea realized it, she burst into laughter, and her face was the merriest it had been since her mother died. She laughed a full, entertained laugh. She calmed into a girlish giggle, and had to take a few deep breaths. "Let me get this straight, you think that I am mated to Jennah? I am sorry to disapoint whichever gossip you heard that from, but we are not seeing eachother in that way."
It was surprizing to hear it, and while she was not tapped into all gossip, she heard some from D'lon, a notorious greenriding gossiper. She had yet to hear this tale from his lips. Panthea had known though that any young, unattached female seen in the company of a male, attached or unattached, (or even vice versa, but usually the young woman would be called the instigator against the woman left behind. And usually older women-in my opinion would be over forty- were seen with slowing drives and too matronly for running around, while men at any age could be ready to bed a girl. Or so they say. . .) would unleash a furry of affair rumours. But Panthea had only sewn up his pants and had quickly made him a new pair. They were friends, or that was all Panthea had assumed them to be. If he were saying anything more. . . Maybe she'd have a talk with him. But what if he did have stronger feelings for her? Well she'd have to be easy on him. But then her judgment halted that. It was silly to think that Jennah had more than friendly thoughts about her. He didn't seem to have many paramours, maybe there was a reason? She laughed lightly, 'Next thing you'll tell me is that he's an eunuch! But no, Jennah is just an aquiantance. Nothing more. I had actually thought that you seemed to be keen on him that night. . ."
Panthea smiled, flattered to be asked, perhaps she and Toya would get along like great friends. She had wanted a best friend and confidante for a long time. "That sounds great! You brought equipment with you and everything?"

"I brought a net, and a rod, you may want to try the rod first, though. The net is complicated. Fish will eat anything, so bait won't be a problem. I'm never without a way to fish!" Toya said in reply. Toya was glad she hadn't done anything wrong. Toya had assumed that when the Weyrhealer demanded his pants from her, he must have left them there by accident. Toya scolded herself for jumping to conclusions. Ponthea seemed happy about the whole situation, so Toya was not too bothered.
Toya liked Ponthea, she reminded her of Hazakarii, Toya's best friend. A harper apprentice who had been moved to the weyr, so she could put her talents to use. It was one of the ways the hold had tried to make up for the lack of food. Hazakarii was a great singer, and could draw very well, and she had taught Toya almost every thing she knew about reading and writing, even though Hazakarri was younger that Toya. the thing that was different was that Hazakarii was open, real open. Hazakarii said what was on her mind, no matter what it was.
"So, Panna, what is the distance from here to the Beach?" Toya had to get to the beach before she could find a good spot. Maybe I have another friend in the making Toya dared to hope.

Panthea was glad to get the weirdness of the previous morning out of the way. And she was glad to be asked. She knew absolutly nothing about fishing whatsoever, and couldn't really even tell Fellis what a rod looked like to find one. Panthea had been to the beach before, but she had gotten there via dragonback, so she was not sure how far it would be to go. Not to mention, with the hatchings happening, she would not want to be stranded away from the Weyr with out a dragon to tell them news of Weyr events. "The distance, i'm not exactly sure of. To play it safe, I think we should find a rider to take us. I have a few riding friends, but I'm afraid their dragons are only two turns old. Still weyrlings, and I am not sure if they are able to leave the Weyr with out permission. We'll have to find an actual rider to take us-plus their dragons will be bigger and more able to carry all three of us."
Panthea had never really traveled around the Weyr before. She visited the beach and flew over the forests of the Southern Continent with her mother. Yet since then she had no real reason to travel beyond these stone walls. She had no strong inclination to really leave Ponaa Weyr either. She was happy here. But to get away just once before the hatching might be nice. "I don't suppose you know of any riders to call upon? I don't suppose you got here by yourself, so did you come by a rider from Ponaa?"

"My dad, and his Mallath brought me here, and they are back an Ista Weyr" Toya said, she tryed to think of somone who might take them. She had no luck. "Maybe We can get a Blue rider to get us there, I've seen many of them and it looked as if they had nothing to do..." Toya hoped this plan migh work. the equipment wasn't that heavy... "Do you know any of them?" Toya asked.

"Oh," Panthea said, it was a slight drawback, for she had hoped that maybe the girl could ask her searchrider to accompany them. But if it was her father, well then that made it impossible to ask him to come for a simple day at the beach. Panthea smirked at ther comment about the blue riders, and she said with a pleasant smile, "That all depends on which wing they are in. Every one knows that the Beta wing has been working particularly hard this sevenday. They might be kind of cranky. I am not too familiar with too many blueriders. Other than weyrling ones. I know several of those."
Of course blueriders often visited her handsome mother but she could not really expect any of them to remember her. Not to mention, that would be kind of weird- to go fishing with riders who had once hoped to fly Mylinth. She could get over it, but she didn't know where to find them anyways. So she wouldn't even mention them. I know one greenrider that is not exactly too worried about the rules, but his dragon is only 2 turns old. I don't really want to strain Tamurath if she's not supposed to be strained. Then there is J'tan, but his dragon is only 2 turns also. Maybe we can recruit some randome rider?"
Panthea could be charming when she wanted to. Sometimes she knew she over did it with her sweetness, but it got the job done-most of the time. It was sort of a game of diplomatics as well. It could be fun, playing with hearts, though she could never keep the charade up, and it went against her self policy. Trust, she valued, and loyalty, and if she constantly charmed men just to get her way, well then everyone else would start to notice and she would be labled a shameless flirt and you know how gossip spreads around this place. . .
"Yeah, maybe we could go around the dragon weyrs if you want." Candidates weren't a normal sight in the weyrs, and she wasn't sure if they were allowed, but she could risk it. It might be a rush. She smiled, "Why yes, meet me in the alpha weyrs, I think, and maybe we could catch a rider into escorting us."

Toya was glad that Ponthea had thought of riding a dragon, and wondered why she hadn't thought of it."OK, When do you want to meet, and are we going to each get an escort?"
Toya hoped to find some fun, not that she wanted to do much more than fish, it was always more fun with more people. Toya liked to flirt, but tried very hard not to over do it, not that she was real successful, but she usually managed to avoid the main gossip stream.
Toya was ready to go now, all she really need to do was change, and grab the rod and net. Who knew, they might Even run into some spiderclaws. Toya thought that it was the right season, anyway. Fishing was what she needed right now, something to calm her nerves. She always felt better after a day on, or near the water.

Panthea smiled, "We could try to get our own rides, that could be fun. I'm going to look around for a ride, you could too. If we spread out, we should be able to find somebody. I'm excited to go to the beach now. I've always enjoyed swimming and sun bathing. I'd like to take off right now." Panthea smiled, these last few sevendays had been the happiest since her mother had died. She was starting to let go of the pain, and new friends always helped. She'd always have friends like J'tan, D'lon, and Byrda, but Toya was pretty cool and could see as potentially being one of her best friends.
"I'll try the beta wing tables first, and then the alpha wing tables. Maybe we'll come up with some one to go with us. But first, I'm starved." Panthea's food was looking and smelling more tempting than ever, and a soft stomach growl confirmed it. The candidate started to eat her lunch, thinking about riders that would take them out on a fishing trip.

The young man virtually bounded into the hall, so full of vigor and energy that it nearly bubbled over. They had done drills today, passovers to be precise and by all rights the pair should be exhausted. But Neth was rapidly reaching maturity and for the most part had all of her growth. And the Green was feeling her age, with more than enough energy for several dragons by all accounts. S'risan was putting on growth almost as fast as his dragon had and today he had worked up a serious appetite. The amber eyed lad quickly scooped up a tray and deposited a large heap of heardbeast and tubers onto it, grabbing a roll and a glass of redfruit juice to go along with.
He spied an empty seat and plopped down, digging into his food faster than you could say between. His two lizards were finding each other far more interesting than their rider, swirling in patterns up in the air above the crowded hall. S'risan spared one quick glance for the pair then dug back into his food. We flew very well today. I outflew the rest of the class by far. Ceroventh flew almost as well as I did. But I am prettier than he is.
Of course she had to say that just as he was drinking his juice, he laughed and started coughing. Neth of course, found this whole thing very amusing. You should drink your juice not breath it. I know love, but I wish you would time your comments for when I'm not drinking. But that wouldn't be as funny. Ha!

Toya smiled. "I will also. When should we meet?" Toya asked as she also began to eat. Toya couldn't believe that for a second she had forgotten that she was hungry. Now she paid for it with a loud stomach growl. The food was delicious, or was it that she was simply starving?
Toya hadn't seen the young man come in, or noticed him at all until she heard the spewing of his drink, mingled with his laughter. His laughter was just the thing to get Toya tickled. Toya too, began to laugh, though she did not know what she was laughing about. Soon Toya was in hysterias. She just couldn't seem to stop. Her face turned red from lack of breath, and her long black hair fell in her face, getting in her mouth as she laughed. Toya now wondered why she was wearing the colors she wore when she was sad, because she definitely wasn't sad now. Her food was only half eaten, but she was laughing too hard to finish it.

"I think we should meet in two days, so that we each get a head start to look. That doesn't mean we have to go fishing in two days, but we could meet again and catch up on the ride situation." Panthea smiled. This was getting to be a more complicated project than she first imagined it would be, but it did encourage them to go out and meet new people. And that kind of growth, with friends, was always a good thing. Panthea was learning to be much more charasmatic and outgoing lately, and she was happy. It was paying off as well, she now had a new friend, and her future seemed to be looking bright. . .
Then Toya started to laught like out of no where. Panthea, who was less easily amused by the sound of laughter, looked around, unsure of what had gotten Toya so bemused. Was Toya laughing at the stomach growls? Was there something in Panthea's teeth by chance? Panthea quickly ran her tounge over her teeth and ran a finger through her hair. Confident it wasn't her, for she had been laughed at before, she scoped around once more. Her eyes fell on S'risan, and he had been coughing. Why? Was he choking? If so, that would be very insensitive to laugh. She bit her lip for a moment, before speaking softly to Toya, "Is he okay?" And then to S'risan with more concern, "Are you okay?"
