Tujal stiffly took a seat in the stands. It had been a scant seven-day since Amenth's Flight, and her pride was still healing, as well as her nether regions. It wasn't that she didn't approve of her mate, far from. She wouldn't have approved of F'dan or G'del. It had just been a bit of a shock to wake up after giving in to dragon passion and find out she and her dragon were responsible for the deaths of the Istan senior queen and her rider. Oh, no one had blamed Tujal or Amenth, and once it was discovered that Ista was behind the missing eggs, the focus switched from the pair to discovering just how it had happened.
The box reserved for weyrwomen and their mates was still blissfully empty, since Tujal had arrived before Lyrai. She sat quietly and waited for others to get there.
Rakken would be coming today, she remembered. He had specifically requested to come, and no one could think of a good enough reason to deny him. Everyone knew he had been involved with Ista stealing the eggs from Sharieth's clutch, but no one could, yet again, prove it. He'd also been behind stealing the gold egg, a crime which Tujal thought exile was an appropriate punishment. She also thought that Ista should be allowed to go under without a queen for their theft, and bring the queen egg back. Tujal did realize, however, that with the eggs in the state they were, they would never hatch if brought through between another time. And a live Ponaasian queen living as a senior in another Weyr was better than a dead Ponaasian queen still in the egg at Ponaa. She sighed. She felt most sorry for Ruet and K'leren, who might never get to see the gold hatchling that came from their first flight together.
Soon, the stands began to fill up, and the candidates were brought in on bronze back. Tujal had figured they'd sent I'slen out to get either Rakken or parents, and she knew he would join her at the first possible time. She missed him already. Lately it had seemed like she never wanted to be without him by her side, and she couldn't explain it. He was a good man, he loved her, and she loved him. She smiled. Weseaneth, when are you and I'slen coming?
More people arrived.
