Sharieth flew to the Hatching sands without her rider's knowledge. Ruet had finally fallen asleep after her uneasy feelings the night before. She always began to feel sick or uneasy before one of Sharieth's clutchings. The Queen took great care with her eggs as one by one she moved them around the sands. Sharieth spent long candlemarks clutching her eggs. For good reason too.
Ruet woke early before the sun rose. Her new mate slept beside her and she did not want to wake him. Slipping out of the bed quietly she threw on a blue woolen dress and some shoes. Sharieth wasn't in her weyr and that meant only one thing. The young Goldrider ran quickly out of her weyr to the Hatchign sands. Her hurrying steps would not be noticed by many this early in the day.
The Goldrider was so proud of Sharieth. The Queen was still moving some eggs about, examining each in turn. She loved her eggs. It seemed to Rue that all Queens loved their clutches or was it just that Sharieth and Zhariath had no mother and were therefore more concerned of their clutches?
Ruet spoke to her dragon lovingly, Dearest they are wonderful.Aren't they... The Queen replied boldly. She had a good sized clutch and with thread that was the best thing she could have done.

((hmm thought about bringing in G'del, but I haven't used Shaylin for a while so. . .))
The greenrider came on to the sands a smile on her face. Of course, Hora had never clutched, that due to the fact that the dragoness was a firestone chewer and a green, and Shaylin always loved clutches. It was a good thing that Horazith had a good intuition so that they could go on Search. During the rest of the year it was true that Shaylin was just a wingrider, but when there were clutches on the sands, the woman got to do her favorite job. Now there were two clutches, and Shaylin was curious about this newest one. The fair woman saw Ruet, and of course the gold, so Shaylin bowed. Greetings and best wishes, Sharieth, Horazith said cheerfully. Mine tells me it should be a wonderous clutch. Of course the green would never be so bold as to come into the hatching grounds by herself so she depended on Shaylin to inform the green of all the hatching ground happenings.
"Hello, Ruet, and congratulations."

Rue smiled to the green rider. Of all the Weyrwomen, Ruet had a tendency to disregard rank and instead of mentioning what color dragon Shaylin rode she spoke cheerfully, "Thank you, Shaylin. And good luck to you on Search. I do hope you and Horazith find some Candidates worthy of Sharieth's clutch." She was so proud of her Queen that it was making her a slight bit more bold than usual. She went back to looking over every egg. It wasn't something that she had to do, but she was a healer and after Zhariath's clutch prolems it would ease Ruet's mind to look each egg over individually. She could count them as she went.
Her next thought, K'leren, she hoped he would wake soon. This was going to be a wonderful clutch, she could just feel it. Sharieth was in such good spirits that nothing could please her more than having people come and admire her and her new clutch. They are almost as beautiful as you are... Almost. The Queen said smugly. This was her day and she knew it. So the Queen continued to watch her eggs with an eagle eye. Nothing would get past her. Not this morning.

Oi! Wake up! Sharieth clutches! Nemenath sounded chipper and excited, and K'leren jumped right out of bed and threw on his pants and shirt. He generally slept in underwear, but too much more than just short-pants, and he got far too warm to sleep with another body in his bed.
"Today?! Oh yeah, today!" K'leren dropped all decorum and manners to get down to the Hatching Grounds. "Let's go, Nem," he said, hopping onto the dragon's unsattled back. The bronze flew off nigh immediately, almost knocking his rider off. But they made it safely.
When they landed, it was directly in the Sands, and K'leren was glad he'd brough sandals. They wouldn't protect his feet as readily as boots, but they were all he could find in a hurry. He slipped them on and allowed his bronze beast to join his preening mate. Good morning, my radiant beauty. The dawn can't hold a glowbasket to your lovliness. Nemenath crooned and wrapped his neck around Sharieth's. They were a good-looking pair, to be sure.
K'leren went and joined his woman. He silently slipped an arm around her waist, and waved to Shaylin with the other arm. "Good-looking clutch, aye, Shaylin?" K'leren, while he generally did recognize rank, did not believe it always had to be strictly observed. Especially with an event like this. The bronzerider counted the eggs. "Looks like...thirty-five eggs?" He glanced around again, to make sure, when he noticed a glint reflecting off of Nemenath's tail. But Sharieth was on his opposite side. "Wait a moment..." He grabbed his mate's hand excitedly and led her over to the glint. Over a fair-sized ripple in the sand, he spotted the metallic offender. "Look, Rue, a gold!"
Nemenath trumpted in bronze glory.

"My thanks to you Weyrwoman, of course, Horazith and I shall try our best to find worthy candidates. We have a nice record, I believe," She smiled softly. Today she was in a better mood than most days. Zharieth's clutch had been a more stressful one than this one today. The searchrider eyed, Sharieth, and noted her healthy color. A good start, and a great number of eggs. It would be a great day once she got to go off on search.
Then K'leren came in. He was always a decent looking man, and that was a compliment. Shaylin never allowed herself to be overly gracious when judging looks. The searchrider's business was never about appearance, really, and she had come to overlook it in everyday life too. But still, he seemed very loving and protective over Ruet. And the greenrider hated to admit she was a little jealous. In all her life she never wanted to be saddled down like a runner to a man, or woman for that matter, but now she was getting a little lonely. She was still young, true, but lately she had been craving commitment. Maybe her grandmothers legacy sentiments were sinking in after so many years. . .
When he spoke to her, she came back to the present. "Aye, fine clutch, congratulations are in order for you as well, K'leren. 35 is a very good number. Should be a good, extensive search." And when he paused to examine something, Shaylin didn't really think too much. But when he noted the gold egg, Shaylin's face lit up. That was good news. And she was one of the first to know. The queen egg would also make a sort of game for the searchriders to see which one of them would find the future goldrider. "Well that certainly makes my job more interesting. Well done, Nemenath."

Sharieth greeted Nemenath, crooning to him sweetly. Look how well we did... She was very proud of herself and was letting him take some of the credit for such a wonderful clutch.
Ruet felt an arm around her waist and turned to see K'leren. She was happy he had come so soon. It was a beautiful looking clutch to be sure. She almost felt guilty for the good fortune after Zhariath's Clutching had been so different. "what?!" She said excitedly. Her eyes widened at the site of the Golden Egg. A Gold...Sharieth had laid a Gold!
And you weren't going to tell me? You would have found out soon enough. Besides why should you care, you already have a Gold. You are right. Your daughter would never even come close to you.It is still very exciting darling.
The Goldrider had forgotten about Shaylin for the time being, looking at the clutch and wondering how many there were of each color. "I bet there is at least one Bronze..."

Seeing the two together, and feeling a bit out of place, Shaylin bowed and softly excused herself before scuttling out. It was still great news, and the hatching, she hoped would be much better than the horrific events of Zhariath's clutch. It had been such a sad thing when it should have been an exciting one. This clutch was sort of a redeamer clutch, and hopefully it would make up, if it were possible, for the last. The queens would be rising more frequently now, Shay was sure of it.
As she left she smiled slightly to herself. B'genar would certainly want to share in a friendly wager, like always. Colors in the clutch, of course, it was tradtion, but also to see which one would seek a candidate that impresses the higher color. There was a gold on the sands, this would not be an ordinary hatching. Oh no indeed. Hurry Hora, we must get on with the Search!
