H’seo rolled his shoulders stiffly as he sat, holding the dragon’s harness aloft to survey his handiwork. His dark grey eyes wandered critically over the wherhide, inspecting his repairs and checking carefully for more areas the harness was wearing thin. Nothing had broken, but there were a few places the tanned hide had grown thin constantly rubbing against his dragon’s muscles, and that was far too likely to grow brittle in the cold of between and break during flight. The rider was adept enough at these minor repairs, and so this little chore had not taken him very long to accomplish. When he was perfectly satisfied with the result of his labor, the blue rider sat his harness aside and leaned back against the rock behind him, surveying the black lake before him. “I’m not much on these lazy days, Reinth.” He drawled slowly, folding his hands behind his head.
Nor me. The blue agreed, stretching restlessly on the ledge he occupied somewhere above his rider. The sun glared against his soft hide, but the brilliant light lost itself in the deep blue of the dragon, unable to win against such a dark and inky color. Reinth raised his head and regarded the bowl of the weyr he called home, noting that two of Ponaa’s wings were conducting drills. Too bad Beta had finished for the day. We could hunt. I am restless.
As usual. H’seo grinned. The dragon’s words were short and to the point as always, but that could be attributed to the fact his partner was a blue. The metallics had far better memories and a much greater vocabulary, but all the same Reinth was not stupid, and though his words were simple, it only added to his charm. ‘Besides, nothin’ wrong with being simple.’ The wingrider thought to himself, rolling the idea of going hunting around in his mind. It was his favorite pastime, hunting, aside from riding Reinth. He could spend candlemarks in the forest tracking footprints with his short bow clasped firmly in his hand and his skinning knife slipped in his boot. Both weapons were a familiar and comfortable weight. Sitting up, the dark-haired man stretched yet again, working his stiffened back muscles loose. “I could see if they needed some meat in the lower caverns. If not, there ain’t much point in going hunting.”
The tall man stood, his lanky form outlined clearly in the blazing southern light. It was a pleasantly warm day, so the rider had opted for a simple, sleeveless spun-cotton shirt. As always, the sword his father gave him was slung from his belt, a now-familiar friend. He then turned, staring at the lake one last time before he left.

The greenrider found herself leaving alpha wing drills with a smile on her face. What a workout! She loved being pushed to the limit and today had been no exception. Oddly she was one of the better flyers in the Weyr. Her manuevering was excellent. Elske knew where everyone was, understood flight patterns almost everything. Isleith was not exactly the perfect dragon but she was great when it came to flying.
Deciding to take a detour, rider and dragon stopped by the lake. Elske dismounted smoothly. She took her jacket off revealing a tank top. Her pants followed so that in the end the greenrider was only wearing her shirt and underwear. Of course she never had been one to care about what was socially acceptable.
Isleith lay on the ground next to the lake making herself very comfortable. The dark haired woman smiled at her green. She took a moment before diving into the cool waters.

H’seo grunted as he arched his back, his grey eyes still trained on the black lake before him. His lean muscles popped satisfyingly as he stretched his arms high, straining them to their limits. “Whelp, I reckon I’ll be heading to the lower caverns….” His sentence stopped short. A green landed rather close to his vicinity, and he watched with a growing grin as her rider slid effortlessly from her back, an obviously practiced gesture. Long, dark hair and a tall figure was all he needed to see. Say, partner…
I suppose we are not going hunting. Reinth said, his mindvoice straightforward, but not without a hint of amusement mingled in. He did not mind when his rider was with other females-what bothered him was trying to speak with the female’s dragon! I will wait here.
His rider, already on his way to the lake, stopped and raised his charcoal gaze to the blue. You ain’t ever gonna find a mate that way. He paused. Not that I mind, but don’t you ever want a lady?
No.
Well, that was that. H’seo left his harness lying by the sheer rock wall and strode toward the lake, stopping by the water’s edge to shed his shirt and boots. The greenrider had already dived in, obscuring his view of her lovely figure, but he was certainly planning to follow suit. The bluerider was by no means a lusty man, never one to enjoy just rutting with one female after another, but flirting was something else entirely. Names, partner?
The dragon is Isleith. Her rider? I know not.
The bluerider shrugged and grinned; there was nothing wrong with a little mystery. With naught on but his pants, H’seo dove, surfacing from the black water with a shake of his head that sent beads of water flying. Shells, but that lake was cold! His farmer’s tan was obvious now, the ring of dark skin ending at his shoulders and in a circle beneath his throat. He swam over the rider, his trademark easy grin gracing his face. By the clothes she had shed before entering the lake, he assumed she had just finished flying. “Evenin’.” He drawled by way of greeting, studying her face as she turned toward him. “I don’t suppose you already have an escort for the night, would you?”

Elske grinned at the man approaching her. "It is indeed." An escort? She wondered if he worded everything so well. The greenrider was no innocent in the ways of men and it amused her to no end to be flirted with. "Not yet." Her green eyes took in the other rider's features just as he examined her. "If your up for it, I would love to have some company for dinner." She was always forward and open with her intentions.
Isleith almost laughed at her. Don't be too pushy... he might not like you...Please, if he didn't like me at all, he wouldn't have come to swim with me...You are vain but then again, so am I. The green stood up ruffling her wings a bit. She wasn't as sore as she thought she would be. They had been pushing themselves today.
The greenrider asked the dragon for the man's name but she didn't know. His dragon is blue Reinth. Seeing as she had no way of knowing him she held out a slender hand gracefully, "I am Elske of green Isleith, Alpha Wing."

H’seo indulged the rider with a grin, forcing himself not to laugh outright at her reply. Yes, he supposed he did have a talent for stating the obvious; evening it was. Reinth snorted mentally. This is interesting. He interjected, sounding far more amused than he should have. The man agreed. The greenrider was certainly lovely, there was no denying that, but the Beta rider had to wonder if he, being the simple man he was, could hope to placate a green. Well, he could see just how amorous….or fiery….this woman was, and she helpfully presented him with the perfect opportunity. However, he could not help but notice she was rather forward.
Reinth let out a laugh. Tell me not my rider is becoming me. The blue had a good laugh at his rider’s expense, unable to keep from comparing his own backward ways with women to how H’seo was marveling at this green’s candidness. They are usually more subtle. Females like to play games.
Well, she’s a refreshing change. I like it. The rider replied. He, too, was an honest and forward person, but in his experience with women, they liked to flirt and tease, not be so very frank with their intentions. He was intrigued. Yes…that fit nicely. Intrigued. “Honored to, m’lady.” H’seo drawled, once more grinning from ear to ear. Oh yes, he was up for it. Well, shells, but this was far easier than trying to coax a woman around to accepting his invitation by teasing and flirting. Was she always so open?
His blue, still perched very safely atop his ledge, could not stop his whirling gaze from wandering to the dragon in the bowl. Isleith was an attractive green, but he was so shy! Reinth knew about women from his rider, but to put any of that into action was another matter entirely. He was so backward around them, he just could not even muster the courage to speak to the lady green. The blue let out a sigh. No…far better to sit here on his ledge and not embarrass himself.
The blue rider happily accepted her extended hand and shook it vigorously, never once thinking that perhaps she wanted him to accept it gracefully. Country boy…what can you do? “Elske is a mighty pretty name, m’lady. I’m H’seo of blue Reinth, Beta Wing.” The man flicked his grey eyes to the sun quickly, noting how far it had fallen. “I reckon supper will be on the table soon. We can get better acquainted, yea?”

She was pleasantly suprised by this blue rider already. To think she would just go for a swim and no one would notice had been silly anyway. There were too many men that she had decided were unworthy at this Weyr. She tended to like the exact opposite of this man. The powerful, often already entangled with another woman, types. Usually 'forbidden' relationships were much more appealing to her.
He was charming, in a farm boy sort of way. Hopefully he was true to his word though. Men seemed to say one thing and do another when it came to her. "I'm hardly a lady..." She smiled back endearingly. Elske had not felt so strange in a long long time. It wasn't a bad thing though. It just meant she would have to be careful around him. Wouldn't want to open herself to the hurt that came with feelings.
Green eyes flitted over to her dragon a moment. The green was going to speak to the blue if her rider was going to be talking to his all night. Go ahead... he probably didn't want to be too forward...I intend to. Isleith spoke to the blue from where she stood, Hello Reinth.
Elske smiled again, "It is a pleasure to meet you. I'm suprised we have not met before." She would have noticed someone like him, wouldn't she? Apparently not. Her hand had withdrawn and she looked back to the Weyr. "Hmm. Yes, well I better get some dry clothes then." It was nice to have someone to spend the evening with .

H’seo tilted his head to the side and raised his brows at the greenrider, a genuinely confused look on his face. “I’m sorry, m’lady, but my upbringing ain’t going away so easily. You’re a lady, and if it’s okay and all, I’d like to call you such.” He grinned, then shrugged. “Unless it bothers you, that is.” He followed her gaze to her dragon, and noted approvingly that her green was in wonderful color. She was good to her bonded, that was for sure, and that meant he had to like her, whether in a platonic way or more. “Hey, you an’ me both, lady. Beta and Alpha are pretty close….I reckon I was too busy practicing or something. Reinth and I like the challenge.” He would have thought he would have noticed her, of all things, though. A healthy dragon and a lovely rider…was he blind?
Reinth was following the conversation between His and the rider closely, chuckling lowly at H’seo’s manners. It was one of the things that had drawn to blue to him at Impression. Abruptly, however, his mirth was cut very short as the green bespoke him. The dragon very nearly fell of the ledge, jumping violently when her soft voice invaded his mind. Oh, Faranth, oh eggs, oh shells….. He thought to himself, panicking. Um, greetings Isleith. He choked out, stammering like a nervous weyrling. Oh, he was so backward with women! He had to say more than that, didn’t he? Oh, what did he say? He opted for complimentary. You’re pretty right now. He squeaked, then immediately felt stupid. Not that you aren’t always pretty….what I meant was….I didn’t mean that. Well, I DID mean you are pretty, but….not right now…. He groaned. I mean, you are pretty right now, too! You are always pretty! He finished, done with making himself look like a runner’s rear. He moaned inwardly; he was such a dimglow!
H’seo, just arriving at the lake’s edge with Elske, burst out laughing, unable to help himself. Reinth was hilarious! It’s not funny. Not even close. Oh, yes it is. His rider replied, wiping tears of mirth from his eyes. “Oh, sorry there, m’lady.” He said quickly, straightening to face the greenrider. “I didn’t mean to leave you out of the joke. It’s Reinth, Faranth help the poor guy. He’s a good dragon, but he ain’t got a flip of sense when it comes to women.” He shook his head, then grinned at the rider before him. “I reckon I better clean myself up before we go, so I’ll meet you at the weyrhall in a few candlemarks. Is that alright with you?” He drawled, hoping to himself that his dragon would ease up a mite with the ladies.

(Either that or we can just continue the thread stating that it is a few candlemarks later in the WEyrhall... its up to you.)
She laughed a moment. "It doesn't bother me. I just never really pictured myself in that sort of way. You may call me whatever you like." Again thinking back she realized it was most likely because she had transferred to Ponaa..what was it? 9 turns or so she had been here... yes. That made sense, Elian was 8. Right.
"I transferred here from Ista Weyr about nine turns ago so we've had a significantly less amount of time to notice. Beta and Alpha may be close but they are always practicing at different times and things like that." It made sense to her anyway... plus she had been busy, with other men. Not that it mattered, they were all dalliances in the end.
Isleith understood what he meant and since she was in one of her more complacent moods aknowledged his words as a compliment. Thank you, Reinth. Then she spoke to her rider, He is adorably shy... Elske grinned as her dragon and his rider were both explaining at the same time. "Isleith thinks its cute. I do believe she is suprised. Not many males have trouble talking with her." No it was females that Isleith did not take time to speak to. May I join you on your ledge Reinth? Isleith wasn't going to stay home with nothing to do all night.
Elske moved out of the water quickly. "Its cold as Between out here!" She gasped as she felt the tinge of a breeze. She quickly grabbed up her jacket and threw it on over her.

H’seo nodded thoughtfully, rubbing his chin while he considered the last nine turns. What had he been doing not to eventually run into her? He was still surprised, but then again she might have had things to occupy her time. “I reckon that sounds about right.” He agreed, then grinned. “Ista, huh? I myself ain’t ever really been anywhere but here and the woods. What made you decide to transfer, m’lady?” He asked, curious to learn more about her. It wasn’t too often he heard of a greenrider transferring by herself unless she had a good reason. Then he grinned widely at her comment about her green. “I’m glad to hear that, m’lady, seeing as Reinth ain’t ever been able to talk with a green. Poor guy.”
The bluerider heard her comment about the weather, and instantly berated himself for his inconsideration. “Aww, I’m sorry, m’lady, you’re wet, it’s cold, and I’m flopping my jaw like a wherry. We can talk in the weyrhall where it’s nice and warm, huh?” H’seo himself was starting to feel the sting of the cold as well. “No lie, though, it’s nigh to freezin’.” He shivered, then shook his head while snickering. “I’ll meet you in the weyrhall in just a bit, and hopefully we ain’t gonna pay for this tomorrow with a fever.” He waited for her to mount her dragon and head towards her weyr before turning back towards his harness.
Reinth felt oh so much the fool, and his rider was hardly helping matters. He was sure the lady dragon would never want to speak to him again. You are far from helpful. The blue grumbled.
Aww, it ain’t as bad as all that. She thinks it’s cute. His rider replied, gathering up his clothes, harness, and mending tools he was using. As the blue ferried H’seo back to their weyr and dropped him off, still grumbling and not even believing his rider, he just about ran smack into the wall as Isleith bespoke him yet again. She was still speaking with him?!?
Whatever you like, Isleith. He replied, trying his very best to keep his mindvoice from cracking. He was mostly successful, aside from the nervousness that warbled through it. I would be honored.
***A few candlemarks later***
Reinth laded H’seo outside the weyrhall, then returned to his ledge, waiting for the green to drop off Hers then come to him. The blue was so nervous. He moved to the very corner of his ledge so she would have enough room, but then he wondered if she would think he was trying to stay away from her. With that thought, he moved more towards the center, but then realized she might consider him too forward. He scuttled back to the ledge’s end, then moved in a bit. Oh, where should he sit?!? Unbeknownst to him, his wings rustled constantly, and outward sign of his nervousness.
His rider, on the other hand, was waiting patiently for Elske at the weyrhall’s entrance, waving and grinning at those from his wing as they entered. He declined all offers of dragon poker, and a few of his buds even poked fun at him. The rider only grinned and shrugged. H’seo was dressed plainly, but well, striking enough in his heavy boots, brown breeches, and white linen shirt. As always, however, his well-used vambraces and sword held their customary places. He raised his grey eyes skyward, looking for a sign of green Isleith.

Reaching for her riding boots, she glanced at the armful of things H'seo had with him. "Yes. I'll tell you all about Ista later then. Even why I was transferred." She made it clear that she hadn't exactly opted to leave her home but wanted to save the long story for later.
To mount her dragon as wet as she was would be a bad idea, so the greenrider opted for walking to her weyr. At least it would be warmer inside, though perhaps she was a bit more unclad than was acceptable. She decided it would be best to wrap her jacket around her waist.
Then I will be there later. Isleith responded not making a big deal out of it, so that he would not be too timid later.
--- a few candlemarks later----
After trying on different outfits for the better part of a candlemark, Elske was finally ready and running late most likely. She had dressed casual after all of her dallying. The deep blue top accentuated her green eyes and pale palor. When she finally arrived at the entrance of the Weyrhall she grinned to see H'seo waiting for her.
"Good evening, H'seo." She worked her way over to him. Who knew it would be so busy this time of night? Isleith in the meantime was on her way to visit Reinth. After a moment she arrived, looking quite pleased with herself. She had found the correct ledge without help from anyone. Landing effortlessly, the green sat just the right distance from the blue so as not to make him nervous but close enough to make sure he knew she liked him.

H’seo returned Elske’s grin as she approached him, unable to stop his eyes from wandering over her briefly. Well, shards, she sure did look pretty. “Evenin’ again, m’lady.” He drawled, half-expecting her to tease him once more about it. He extended his arm to her and smiled, his grey eyes dancing as he did so. She might have said she wasn’t a lady, but she sure was to him and he would treat her as such. “Not to be rude, Elske, but you look mighty lovely.”
Walking into the weyrhall, he paused for a moment, turning to face the greenrider beside him. “You mind where we sit, m’lady? It ain’t gonna bother me none.” H’seo asked, since it really was not important to him where they parked their seats. But, she might have had some preferences as to which people they were near.
Reinth, in complete contrast to the comfortable happiness of his rider, was nearly frantic as he watched the green approach him, even while he was in awe of her lovely, effortless flight. She was such a charming dragon….oh, what was he to do? Practically digging his claws into the ledge as she landed, the blue tried his very, very utmost to watch his words and not embarrass himself….again.
Greetings….to you, Isleith. He forced out, managing, to his surprise, to sound rather even. She had sat close, but not too close. She was so less…amorous than the others of her color….perhaps that was why Reinth felt more comfortable around her. He suddenly found a bit of boldness, and moved just a mite closer. A mite. How fare you?

Lady again... well, if thats what he wished to call her, she did already say it was alright. It was sweet in a way. "Thank you. Thats not rude at all, say whatever you want around me. I'd rather hear the truth. You are looking very handsome yourself." Of course she had never been shy about men.
She was almost in shock when he offered her his arm. It had been quite some time since any man had done that. Many turns in fact. She really could not remember the last time. This added to H'seo's charm. Elske cared little for where she sat most nights, but figured if he didn't care she better choose a place or they'd never sit anywhere. "We can sit at the end of that Alpha wing table over there."
Isleith was glad to see he moved closer. Like all greens she thrived on attention. Oh quite well. How are you this evening? Her head turned towards his, blue eyes whirling slowly. This would be a nice quiet evening. She didn't have many blues give chase to her. If he proved himself worthy of her attentions than she would encourage him to fly her, but right now, she wanted to get to know him.

H’seo smiled a bit at her reply to his compliment, almost embarrassed when she returned the favor. He was not a conceited man, and so had never really considered himself all that attractive. When he looked about, there were many riders of higher colors dressed far more finely than he, and the bluerider really could not compare in his simple, farmboy clothing. She was too sweet. “Aww, you’re gonna embarrass this bluerider.” He drawled softly, looking at her, for once, without the trademark grin on his face. Hmm…that was odd-what was that strange jolt that shot through his chest, a feeling like his heart was being squeezed? It was only for an instant, but all the same, there it was. The wingrider quickly grinned.
“Alpha Wing it is, m’lady.” He said, walking at Elske’s side to the seating of her choice. H’seo stopped beside her and held his arm out, allowing the woman to remove her delicate hand. He stood patiently while she sat, then parked his own rear next to her. Resting his forearms on the table, the bluerider tilted his head to the side and regarded the greenrider. A drudge would bring their food soon…but there was no sense in silence. “So, Elske, what did bring you to Ponaa? Didn’t like Ista?” He would like to get to know her better, and perhaps….she would like to know him better as well.
Reinth was encouraged by the green’s response to him, and even found the boldness to face her without looking about like a caged animal. Perhaps he just might be able to pull this off without baring his a** again. It is good you are well. He replied, his talons making small grooves in the rock as he scraped them up and down nervously. The blue had to do something to keep his wings from rustling. He considered a hundred different replies to her question, each one more corny than the last, until he finally gave up on a clever answer. He would just look stupid again.
I was well enough, but now I am even better. The dragon replied, then utterly stilled. Where in the fall, fog, and fire had that come from? He did not mean to sound so flirty, did he? ‘Oh, Faranth’, the blue thought, ‘is she going to laugh at me now?’ He tried his best to get over his shock, beginning to suspect that little comment must have rubbed off from his rider or something, and finally managed to come up with some more conversation. How do you like Ponaa, Isleith? Do you ever miss Ista? ‘And more importantly’, Reinth secretly thought, ‘do you miss a particular dragon from there?’

"I wouldn't dream of it." She answered about embarrassing him, finishing the statement with a wink his direction. Upon being seated she realized a few of her wing members were watching the display. Elske didn't wish to deal with them and shot them one of her not in the mood looks.
"Ista weyr..." She thought a moment before starting her tale. "I wouldn't say that I didn't like it. I was born there, raised there, impressed there, went through all my training there and of course most of my family is there." Elske had to go back nine turns to just before she was transferred to come up with an answer. This wasn't going to impress him at all, in fact it might deter him. The truth was better than a rumor, so she would tell this tale to the bitter end.
"It was about ten turns ago, I'd wager that I met him..." she let the name come to her slowly, as if remembering a dream. "S'rin." It was obvious by her tone that this wasn't just some affair she had. "He was a Bronzerider, very well liked, respected and a favorite among women. And not just any women, Goldriders." Elske was almost sure this story was not going to help her conversation. "I knew this, I knew he was paying a lot of attention to the Jr. Weyrwoman. I didn't care, he didn't care either. You can't help who you love they say. The Jr. Weyrwoman was due to have a mating flight. S'rin would fly her. I knew this. I still didn't care. He apparently did though I speculate he was saying that so that he coudl fly the Junior. I was sent to another Weyr, Ponaa."
She smiled almost sadly, "I don't really mind being here though. For one thing the weather is nice. The male company is loads better. Besides I made no enemies of Queenriders here." Elske was between sadness and happiness. It was a bittersweet tale. At least two of her children were here and she didn't have to face her past everyday here.
"Now you get to tell your life story..." Elske insisted. She didn't want him to think she was still in love with that Bronzer. It was so long ago now she rarely even thought of him. She had a new home and new paramours. She didn't need some rider from Ista.
The vain green took what he said to heart. So he did like her... she thought smugly. Her rider was having her own issues, the green had never liked that man or his dragon. This blue, who by dragon logic should be less desireable than a Bronze, was far better than one. Rankers did not know how to lavish attention on her as she wanted. Ista? No... not really. I don't think of the past much, I like focusing on the present. Isleith did at that. She didn't much care about the future either. The only future concerns she had were her flights. Ponaa is great and getting better every minute.

((Sorry it took me so long to reply--I was trying to finish my candidate.))
H’seo watched the greenrider carefully as she began her tale, and in being a bluerider, he naturally had a knack for reading people. He could hear the subtle change in her voice as she breathed out the name of a rider, a bronzer to be perfectly factual, and worked at keeping his face neutral. It was plainly obvious to him that this metallic was of more than just ordinary importance to her, something beyond a mere tryst, and found himself caught in her voice. Such a bitter account, he mused, and wondered if she still dwelled on her painful past. The wingrider inwardly cursed S’rin, deep down knowing the bronzerider was one of the very few men H’seo could deck on the jaw and not lose any sleep over it. The dark-haired man smiled slightly when she finished her tale.
“Not really much to tell, m’lady.” He said softly, the muscles in his jaw working. Something about that story just irritated the fire out of him! H’seo shrugged, then looked away from Elske, imitating her in thinking that this might drive the woman away from him, rather than infatuate her more. Yet, she had been honest, and the bluerider had never lied in his life. He was not about to start. “I was born right here in Ponaa, and my old man was a farmer, my mom a drudge. I had two brothers, and we spent our time pretty much just working the land and hunting when we had the time.” He began, his gaze finding it’s way back to the greenrider’s face. “I was chosen as a candidate with one of my brothers, and I Impressed Reinth. My other brother is still working in the fields.” He shrugged again, then grinned. “I reckon I’m pretty boring compared to some riders, but I turned out all right. I got several turns of good, hard labor under my belt, and Reinth ain’t afraid to get a little dirty.” The rider unconsciously turned his palms up and glanced at them, the calloused, hardened skin utterly dead to sensation. H’seo looked back to Elske. “Compared to you, m’lady, I ain’t seen nothin’.”
Reinth was quite delighted to hear that this lovely green, whom he was starting to appreciate more and more, had no thoughts of Ista, or her dragons. He chuckled to himself, immensely proud that he had managed to avoid ruining the night, so far. Now if he could just keep it up…The blue knew that she had been enjoying the attention he gave her, for it showed in her mindvoice (And the fact that she hadn’t flown off in a huff, of course, factored into his calculations.) He searched his mind, and His, for something to reply. I would like to make it even better for you, Isleith, if you would allow it. The blue said lowly, impressing even himself. He wanted to move closer to her, but he was too shy. Besides all that, as backward as he was with the ladies, he didn’t know if that would be offensive or not. He did wonder.
