S'mael did a few more laps around the edge of the black lake with a large stick holding 4 buckets of water across his shoulders. The Candidate Master was hard at work keeping himself at peak condtion once again.
Leaving the buckets near the stables, he ran back with 4 more empty buckets to the middle of the lake shore. Filling those up, he started performing squats.
It's getting late again. As long as you keep working out, I can't get sleep. Fenrath knew and shared S'mael's obsession, but liked to remind him of the importance of rest as well.
I know, love. You keep your mind on what you need to do for your excercizes in the morning. S'mael hoisted and started training again with the buckets.

Tujal sat next to Amenth in the bowl, watching the older man run back and forth between the Weyr, the lake, and the stables. One eyebrow arched high, she giggled and rolled her eyes. Some riders were ridiculous about exercise. Why, she took her daily jog and that was fine enough for her.
But we both have high appetites, Tujal, Amenth reminded her.
"Aye, that's true enough," she admitted. Amenth ate every third day, not fifth like most dragons. Tujal chalked it up to her small size and still-growing stature.
It's getting late again. As long as you keep working out, I can't get sleep. A different voice, almost more masculine. Tujal looked around and saw a pair of whirling eyes some distance away. She guessed it was the Candidatemaster's dragon. Tujal was slightly irked. Let the man work out, if he liked, but he shouldn't put his dragon out over it. She pursed her lips.
If Fenrath had an issue with it, he'd tell the man.
"Fenrath, is it, now?"
The queen audibly harrumphed.

S'mael noticed something different colored than the light comming from the corner of his eye. He let his eye drift to keep it in view without notice.
We have a listener nearby, rider-mine. Fenrath stated. I saw her comming nearby with my eye. Let the weyrling listen all she likes, love, I have no secrets. S'mael sat the buckets down, knowing that the girl Tujal was rather close by. Your eyes are still good and you are still young. True, true, you have no secrets, except the mystery that is you... And flattery will get you a long scrubbing after the candidates start thier chores in the morning. Fenrath just grinned back at the thought of it.
S'mael let a slight 'heh' escape his lips. Then turning around and sitting on the crossbar of the sturdy stick resting on the 4 buckets. He looked her over, sizing her up like he did so many times before as her candidate master. Then he pulled his eyes together.
"Something I can help you with, Tujal?" Yes, he would recognise her, S'mael remembered everyone he gave stable duties to, especially those he chose for team leaders. He made sure of that. "Or is there something that your weyrling master didn't explain fully enough for you?" She was a prize student under him, so if there was something she needed to talk about, usually it would be something for an advanced class anyway.
He was, as always, blunt and to the point. 'Favorite' ex-student of his or not, being bothered during exercise was not a favorite thing of his. Especially if she wasn't learning properly about rest and exercise.

"Oh, no, nothing, sir," she replied airily, but still smiling. She remembered his surprise (though well-enough hidden it was) that a Holder's Daughter like she should like to do stable-duty. He'd expected much more of her after than than of any other candidate, but she had consistantly risen to the occasion. "Just watching, is all. Sitting with Amenth."
At the sound of her name, the gold crooned. Hello, Fenrath. Lovely evening, aye?

"Then mind the time, Tujal." S'mael got up and went back to doing squats with the buckets of water on his shoulders. Beastial, his hair flew in the evening breeze. Sweat glistened from his muscles and the fur lining the shoulder-parts of his open vest exposed his chest as he stared through her, through Amenth, through anyone or anything in front of him. He was in his zone now. Let the goldrider watch for all he cared. He has no secrets.
Hello, Amenth. A lovely evening it is, indeed. Fenrath was not quite as gruff in tone as S'mael might have been. He knew that it would be a little longer till his rider would come up and rest. Such was his practice every day. S'mael's tight-lipped-ness seemed to have rubbed off slighty on the burneshed bronze. Fenrath offered no conversation other than what Amenth would want to discuss, but then again, Amenth was a gold anyway. There should not be much need for it to be otherwise.

Tujal smiled sweetly, though she was seething. "Aye, Candidatemaster," she said. Then she yawned. "Time for bed, I guess." She rose. "Let's go, Amenth." They left.

"Sleep well then Tujal. And keep to your studies." S'mael said as she walked away. Alot of potential in her... to be able to hear dragons and be weyrwoman someday. It is alot on her shoulders, but she passed through my tests with flying colors. I'm sure she will do well. Perhaps...
Don't think about that, love. The odds against that are already stacked, as you would say. Heh, go figure.
S'mael finished up his exercise and went back to his weyr for a little shut eye.
