Character
Name: Telaro
Rank: Apprentice Beastcrafter
Gender: male
Age: 20
Origin: Ponaa Weyr
Appearance: Black hair, olive complexion, brown eyes in all appearances a normal young man. He is not what some would call handsome but he is a scruffy sort of attractive. He often has that just fell out of bed appearance. He shaves after a few days and generally keeps his hair short enough to manage. As most in his current craft he keeps himself well built to do all the heavy lifting and such required of him.
At about 6’1”, Telaro is a good height. He has a trim figure and would be seen as thin to most. His gait is that of someone who has no fear. There is often a smile on his face which most find unnerving along with the cool stare of his brown eyes. When it comes to clothes, he could care less what he was wearing. Generally he throws on whatever he can find.
Despite his unkept appearance, Telaro is considered interesting to look on with his jet black facial hair and long nose. He prides himself on his calloused hands and sun tanned skin. His complexion doesn’t allow him to burn like most people.
Family:
T’lor- deceased rider of brown Foerth, would be 40
Aroline- Drudge, age 43
Brothers:
Ferol- age 21, Apprentice smith
Sisters:
Roline- age 16, weyrbrat/ apprentice weaver
Arolis- age 12, Weyrbrat
He doesn't much talk of or to his family.
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Personality:
Telaro grew up in the Weyr and knows the ins and outs better than most. As such new people are slightly annoying. The Weyr isn’t that complicated. He is given to anger easily though one wouldn’t call him moody. He despises klah, redfruit being a close second. Firelizards are as annoying as the idiots that come to be candidates and even worse are those men who are overly gay. He won’t ever go swimming again and his dancing would be better off not seen again. Overly flirtatious women also bother him. Can’t they go bother some straight guy? Rowdiness is another thing he doesn’t particularly care for along with constant consumption of wine to the point of drunken stupidity.
There are of course plenty of things he does like, runners obviously being one of them. Telaro enjoys looking at beautiful things, admiring them and critiquing them. He has an eye for detail where most people would not notice something he would. He admires well played music as it is a beautiful thing though not visually so he finds a good melody to be the cure for a bad mood. When it comes to food he likes vegetables and white wines. He loves to play games, such as dragon poker so long as things don’t get too crazy. There are a few women he doesn’t mind and those he keeps as good friends. They are like sisters to him and he would never let any harm come to them. Faranth help the man who hurts them.
The one thing that he values most is honesty. Liars and deceivers are the worst sort of people on Pern. If anyone was a parasite it would be them. Should someone be entirely honest with him, Telaro would make that person his friend as quickly as possible.
Hobbies/Skills: care and skill with beasts due to his training as a beastcrafter for the last seven turns.
Pets: None
History:
Born at Ponaa Weyr to a dragonman and a drudge, Telaro was raised by his mother. She took great care in being a good mother. He had an older brother and eventually two younger sisters. Telaro was never a boy that got into much trouble. When the going got rough in games he would get himself out. It wasn’t his fault if someone else got hurt. He was never really part of a group, tending to stray off by himself. As much as he was a jovial sort of child he could also be intensely quiet.
The way he was raised was not very different than most who grew up in the Weyr. In fact he considered himself ordinary. As he got older he realized he was anything but ordinary. He had never spent one night in the crèche. His mother took care of other people’s children. He never really spoke with his father so when he died in a training accident, Telaro at seven years old, really didn’t care too much. Who needed fathers? They just lied and left women to raise their children by themselves.
At thirteen, Telaro’s mother got him an apprenticeship working as a beastcrafter. He liked animals. They were simpler than humans. While he enjoyed his work at thirteen he dreamed of riding dragons like any other boy at the Weyr. He didn’t stand until he was fourteen but after three turns of never impressing he resigned himself to a life without a dragon. As a sixteen year old, he had many friends, most of them women. All of whom started to act weird around him. They flirted and giggled and were all in all annoying. He watched how the other men received such flirting and realized again that he wasn’t normal. He would rather watch the men than the women.
He didn’t tell anyone of this revelation of course until yet another girl tried to seduce him. Telaro ended up saying he didn’t like women and she had better leave him be. At seventeen he had finally found his first love. A dragonrrider, who as most greenriders were rumored to be was very amorous. It wasn’t long before the rider was on to his next lover. Telaro felt incredibly stupid shortly after that liason and vowed not to fall in love with anyone again. Sadly for him, heads and hearts rarely coincide. He did fall in love again… and again. Eventually he found he liked the thrill of the beginning of relationships. Learning all there was to know about someone and then moving on to the next person. The Weyr truly was a wonderful place.
At age twenty, Telaro is preparing himself to be promoted to journeyman in the next few years. He spends all his time learning so that hopefully he can be permanently assigned to the Weyr. He has let go of his childish dreams of impressing.
Color Prefence: Blue
Sample RP:
What in the…? Telaro looked up quickly. That d**ned stallion. If he had his way the thing would be gelded by now. Running out the stable doors like a madman he watched the chestnut male running towards the pastures. No doubt some female was in heat. Flame it all. If he wasn’t alone today this wouldn’t have happened.
It had been his idea of course. The man needed a break and besides if they all worked everyday they wouldn’t have time for any fun. Telaro saw that the stallion was now within a close distance. He would have to approach slowly. Rope in his hand he gently slid the loop out. This was going to be a long day.
