Name: Venaru
Rank: Headwoman Assistant
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Origin: Southern Hold
Appearance: Venaru has brown hair that is bound most of the time either in braid or piled on top her head by wide headbands, giving her a Greek look. She keeps sparse bangs that mostly hangs in her eyes, and she blows them out periodically. When she trims her hair, her bangs are cut just barely above her sculpted eyebrows. Her eyes are wide, dark, and doe-like, accented by dark lashes and graceful lid curves. She has olive skin that’s darker in the summer months and lighter in the winter once. She has a very straight nose that’s just a tad long, however it doesn’t seem to mar her looks too much. Her lips are plump however they are often pouty or scowling. There are no distinguishing marks on her face, however there is an oval birthmark the size of a fingerprint on the inside of her left arm.
Thanks to her pregnancy, the young woman has added to her hourglass form, with bigger breasts and slightly wider hips and slight curve to her belly. It makes her look healthy and viable. Venaru is a very curvy and feminine woman. She likes wearing long dresses that clung in just the right places. Usually with these dresses she wears sandals with laces and straps that climb up her calves, but she also owns a pair of soft dark blue slippers that she likes too. At feasts and festivals she usually wears the same rich reddish brown dress that it dark enough to not be mistaken for a wedding gown. She has one gold hair piece that she often sticks in her curls when it’s all pinned up and it makes her look higher than her station really is.
Most of the time she looks younger than her turns, very girlish, but she does have the capability to make herself look very grown up at feasts and festivals. Despite her young appearance, when she is overseeing things for the Headwoman, she often gives a distinct feeling of dominance and unhappiness with the others’ work. She does not look like an overly pleasant woman all the time.
Family:
Mother: Bedora (53)
----- A woman who had some training in the smith craft, and then settled at Southern Hold at first for a job, and then to become a mother and wife. She was a very moody and dominant woman who clearly wore the pants in the family. Bedora was tough on her children, yet she was distant from her children and not the most affectionate mother. She was work focused, and kids didn’t really fit into her advancement. She had only two children because of that. She was never really was too in love with Weval because he was a pleasure seeker, his work was not hard like hers. She hated dancing, flirtations, and music. Bedora was married to Weval because her master willed it.
Father: Weval (61)
----- He was head scribe for the Lord of Southern hold, and very, very close to the man’s Lady. He was more family orientated, and yearned for a more docile, submissive woman like the lady. He also wanted more than two children, but his good wife didn’t, and what Bedora says goes. He was a poet, a writer, and a courtier in his younger years. It was he who was more hands on with the children, it was he who filled their void for parent. He was a very creative man who was known as a great dancer. It was always too bad that Bedora hated dancing and singing.
Brother: Sorano (30)
----- Her elder brother is ten turns older than Venaru. He, like his father, is a scribe. He writes love poetry to various women, and even the Lady delights in him and his humor. He is very well liked among the womenfolk, and the men, too. Sorano is a lady’s man, however he was not destined to be a bachelor his whole life. He married a very charismatic woman named Gena and they have five children already. Sorano, like his father, is not the most fidelity conscious men in the world.
Nieces and Nephews:
(by Gena)
----Favral, male, 6 turns old
----Lorana, female, 5 turns old
----Jassi, female, 4 turns old
----Callor, male, 2 turns old
---- Xaneli, female, less than a turn
(By others)
Bernadette, female, 10 turns old
Veralyn, female, 8 turns old
Zel, male, 4 turns old
Sexual Orientation: previously hetero, tho at this point she’s okay with switching sides
Personality: Venaru is a bit temperamental and nothing seems to please her. She is not openly warm and affectionate to people, only to her son, and definitely not towards the boy’s father. Venaru is authoritative and bossy, already she’s acting as if she’s got the Headwoman position but she hasn’t. Venaru is protective of what is hers and is aggressive about it too. She’s not about to let people walk all over her or make big requests of her. The young woman loathes her former fling, D’lon, and will use any excuse she can to get into a fight with him. It doesn’t matter what he throws at her-she’s ALWAYS right. He’s a sorry excuse for a man in her mind, and the only thing that stopped her from Impressing. She blames everything on him among others and quick to punish and/or scold him or whichever useless help she’s given-whether it be drudge or candidate she doesn’t care. Nothing is good enough, and she pushes them to do better, and maliciously rather than encouragingly. If they become better people by striving for better or bettering themselves, it was not intended, for Venaru just wants them to do the job right the first time. Venaru is very level headed and strict.
Venaru is very distant with men right now. She’ll not have them ruin her youth any more than they have. –cough- D’lon –cough- Venaru, like her mother, throws herself into her work with out stopping, most of the reason she was handpicked by the Headwoman. She resents ever being called a drudge because she is NOT a drudge. The term is demeaning to her, and it refers to the dimglows of the Pern. She is highly educated, and cringes every time some one calls her that. She is not afraid to correct them either. She does like some entertainment, she enjoys dancing and listening to music, but believes too much frivolities is a bad thing. The young woman sees competition in almost everything. Even in potentially succeeding the Headwoman, there are five girls in the running, however three are official candidates so there is only one other girl she really has to worry about. Even when she was a candidate, she saw herself competing for the same dragon the next girl was even courtship was basically a competition for her. One girl had her eye one D’lon when they were candidates and Venaru saw it as a chance to get him first-and succeeded. Though to her dismay she was pregnant with his baby and she could not stand. She still blames him ‘till this day.
She has a secret fear of rejection. She spends so much time appearing better, stronger, and more attractive than other girls that she is afraid she does it all for nothing. One of the reasons why she makes excuses and blames D’lon for ruining her chances is that she is afraid she’ll be left standing. Or worse, mauled. So with hatchings, Venaru plays it safe and watches them from the stands.
Hobbies/Skills: Venaru is very good at what she does, she can cook, sew, dance, and flirt, though she often refuses to do the latter. Her father was a sort of Pernese courtier and she got the dancing and flirting skills from him.
Pets: None
History: Venaru was born at Southern Hold to two very different people. She was the youngest daughter, her elder brother much older than she. Venaru learned a little bit of her mother’s trade but never liked it much. She preferred to dance and sing and goof around with fellow children. She was always close to her brother, despite age difference. She was charming and happy and flirty. She would do well around the hold, maybe enchant a younger son. . . but this was not to be. Venaru learned with the best of them, but she was not happy. She had seen dragons, and developed a lust for them, a lust almost as strong as her lust for men. She wanted to be a rider, but her father did not want her to be searched. Her father was determined to keep his children out of the Weyr, but her mother didn’t really care about the whole thing. At sixteen Venaru rebelled against him, even if her mother didn’t give a tunnel snake’s arse, and took off with one of the many runners in the stable. She was sure she would be caught quickly if she went to Southern Weyr, so when met up with some traders she followed them, eventually selling them the runner she stole so that she could not be tracked.
She got to Ponaa Hold, but Venaru was restless. She could stay there for only so long before she would try to hitch a ride with the tithe trains. Fortunately, she was Searched, and then brought to the Weyr. Everything would be good and she would live happily ever after, right? Wrong. She worked very hard for two turns under the tough eye of the Head Woman. The lady was impressed with her work, and her want to learn to sew, not just embroider. Venaru wanted to learn how to cook and do landry and make numbweed. It was for her own ends, true, but it seemed to have a nice effect on the Head Woman. It was at the age of eighteen that she met the death of her dream to be a dragonrider. While she thought she met her prince charming, she really only found a lovesick animal who wanted a few nights of pleasure and she really was only looking to win the little competition. Still, they were lovers for a short time until she found out she was pregnant. Due to her condition she did not stand at the hatching D’lon did, did not Impress, but took up a spot under the Headwoman.
She gave birth to a plump, healthy baby boy whom she named Devon, and every one knows who the father is. Venaru loves Devon with all her heart and cannot stand it when D’lon accuses her of neglect. Venaru is nearing her 21st turn and knows that her chance of ever Impressing are ending quickly.
Color Prefence: Any, since she’s unsuspecting. Surprise her.
