Her first thought was maybe he would be too busy... but he quickly put her doubts to rest. She smiled in return, looking away shyly. Sharieth wanted to flame her as it was and now the queen had made certain to ignore her rider, inadequacies included.
He had a brilliant smile, she thought absently. Noting that he was very sure about what he was doing. Ruet leaned in a bit more to watch and for reasons she didn't quite understand she liked it. Odd that she had never really come into contact with this man before. He at least was not going to go off talking about his prowess, unlike some people. She did catch herself talking about her skills now and again. Well everyone had their faults, herself included.
Hopefully her watching was not getting in the way or ruining the light. She was intrigued at how the picture was coming to be. It was strange to know almost nothing about something that someone else knew practically everything about. It humbled her a bit which for a Queenrider, was saying something.

One Sevenday Later K'leren approached the Goldrider's room. Surely F'sen was out--it was midday, and he would be having lunch. K'leren was pretty sure he had seen the other bronzerider eating in the Weyrhall anyway. But in any case, F'sen would know the score. K'leren had been over to Ruet's weyr every day to paint Sharieth. The last day, two days ago, he had absolutely forbidden Ruet from watching him paint, and after an hour and a half, had gone back to his own weyr to finish the painting. Now it was done. He knocked. "Rue?" he called, using her pet name. "Are you in?" He paused. As he waited for her, he glanced over the painting to make sure it was all as delectable as he remembered. He made it a habit to never look back at a painting once it was done, because he would always notice a shortcoming of some sort, but then, this was no ordinary painting. It was beautiful. There was Sharieth in golden radient beauty. He had used very special paint in making her practically glow off of the canvas. A pattern called dry-brushing had helped the glow maintain and give the picture a real-life texture quality. It was really a good painting, maybe his best.

Sharieth landed on her ledge with what grace she possessed. Ruet, who was very rarely seen in her riding leathers, was in them now and dismounting her Queen when she heard a voice. Shards! She wasn't prepared for company. Ruet walked from the ledge into her weyr and quickly opened the door. She was suprised to see K'leren, though pleasantly so.
Her hair was braided though strands of her blonde curls seemed to have escaped the binding braid. "K'leren." She smiled opening the door wider to let him in. "Please, come in." He had been there quite often the last sevenday or so. When he didn't come yesterday she had found herself disheartened. Now she was more happy to see him than she had thought she would be.
"What do you have there?" Noting that he was holding a painting. He was holding it away from her view so she could not see if it was what she hoped it was. Sharieth would be excited and to fall with Sharieth, Ruet was excited enough for both of them.

"This, my dear Ruet," K'leren said, smiling, "is your painting." He turned it around slowly, and lifted it up to her eye level. He was a bit taller than her, so it wasn't that hard. "What do you think?"
Internally, he no longer cared about the painting. Ruet was...different. She wasn't all put-together. When she was, she was amazing. But this, this slightly dishevelled and normal Ruet...K'leren was floored. She was beautiful. Nemenath whistled. Nem...you see this?
Yes, I do.
Wow.

It was gorgeous, she thought without taking time to look over all the detail in it. What did she think? "Its such a wonderful likeness. Surely you outdid yourself on this. Its absolutely perfect." Her eyes looked it up and down again before she looked on the artist himself.
Noting how proud he was of the painting she looked at it and then out at Sharieth who was coming in off of her ledge. You certainly are a dazzling Gold...As if a painting could make any difference on how beautiful I am. How do I look in it?He has made you exactly as you are love. Its truely as close to perfection as anyone could get. Its great timing. I've been in such good color. Ruet nearly rolled her eyes at that being a good thing. It wasn't all that great. She didn't want to contemplate another turn with F'sen, not when she had another on her mind so often.
Ruet's attention turned back to her human companion but she found he was no longer looking at the painting. The look on his face made her blush slightly but she did not turn away. Her eyes met his gaze wishing he would say whatever it was he was feeling. Knowing herself well enough, Rue doubted she could say what she should.

"Lady Ruet..." K'leren trailed off, not sure how to proceed along with his thoughts. He was generally a soft-spoken person, not prone to long conversation, but he could sense a change in the wind. And Ruet deserved to know the real reason why he had been so keen on being in her company lately. "I...erm, that is, to say....Well, I think you're beautiful. And smart. And I really like to be around you."
There. He had said it. Well-done.
But what if she thought he was crazy? She wouldn't. Every fiber of his bronzerider body told him that it was impossible to think he was crazy. K'leren almost rolled his eyes against that. But he managed to stay still enough for her to reply. And he hoped desperately that F'sen wouldn't come back in the middle of this revelation.

There she was, standing as all people do who await their own fate. Perhaps it had been harsh for her to expect him to say something but she needed it. She needed to hear what he was feeling and thinking. Within moments he began to speak. She wasn't sure whether to be embarrassed or not. Rue had wanted to escape saying anything but how he ended left her no choice. He didn't only find her beautiful and he hadn't even mentioned her position. Of course she had felt something for him more and more everyday and there was nothing she could do.
The few seconds that went by in silence were by no means a bad sign, Rue was merely trying to find the right response. If she were better at conversation perhaps it would have been easier. Still there wasn't anything she would do to ruin this moment. Her eyes closed a moment and she took a deep breath, "K'leren, I was not entirely innocent in my request to have you paint Sharieth. The truth is I wanted to get to know you better and as we have been spending time together I ahve come to realize that I like you. Not just the Bronzerider part of you, everything." She knew the next words she would speak would be a betrayal to her current Weyrmate. Faranth help her. "I think... I mean I feel that..." As she fought with her mind and tongue, she hoped he wouldn't find her too forward in this. "I love you."
Sharieth entered her rider's thoughts feeling almost proud, That feels better doesn't it. Indeed and why do you care?Nemenath is a very strong and handsome Bronze. He would make a good mate...The dragon admitted that her rider was not alone in their like for the pair. Of course there was still a flight in the near future and Sharieth was not as predictable as she might seem.

K'leren was amazed. He'd felt the same way for a few days now, but he hadn't wanted to rush her into things. And she was with F'sen anyway, though he sensed that she hadn't really been "with" the other bronzer for months now, if ever. They just were compatible...and K'leren and Ruet were.
His heart pounded quickly, and a slow smile spread across his features. Outside, Nemenath trumpeted, no doubt awaking the weyr from an afternoon nap and rustling more than a few wherries from their trretop perches. "Aw, Rue, I love you too," he said, his face tingeing red. He looked down at her, his eyes shining with admiration. But he was a fair amount more practical than his new goldriding counterpart. "What about F'sen?" he asked. "Shards."
He moved closer to her and took her in his arms. She smelled of sweat from a ood hard workout, and he could appreciate that. He smiled at her.

She was relieved, relieved that he felt the same way. For a moment it seemed her life hung in what he would say. There was no reason she should not be his. Now Rue sounded like her dragon. Sharieth was rubbing off on her. She moved into his embrace more than willingly. Her arms wrapped around him in return. Whe n he mentioned F'sen she took a moment and then looked up at him.
"Well, Sharieth is due to fly." Rue let her eyes drop. He was right. She couldn't hurt F'sen like this. "Until then I have to be his Weyrmate..." Oh how she would rather have him in her weyr tonight. She held on to him more tightly, eyes closed. "K'leren I'm so sorry." She had no right to tell him her feelings and then go back to being another man's mate. Not that she had done anything sexual with F'sen in months. No the two had never been that sort of pair.

K'leren's haert fell at her words regarding F'sen. "But Rue, you and he haven't been close for a long time. I can sense it about you." Inwards, he swore at himself. It wasn't her fault; it was how she had been brought up. "I'm sorry, Rue." He smiled sadly at her. "I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. It's just frustrating, I suppose. But I understand. You have to be true to yourself above all." He held her closer. Somehow, her stubbornness just made her seem ever more intelligent and beautiful. He told her so.
He took her closer in his arms and met his own cocoa-colored eyes with her pale-blue ones. His heart pounded in his chest, but he knew what had to come next if he wanted to solidiy their relationship. He smiled dashingly and kissed her.

She closed her eyes at his words, telling herself she was doing the right thing the honorable thing. If F'sen were in her place she would expect the same of him. Ruet spoke softly to him, "No we have never been terribly close. But if your reffering to mating, its only been a couple times outside of mating flights." Of course those couple of times had felt wrong and she rarely thought of them.
"I love you even more for that." Her eyes were shining with a hint of tears behind them. She would not cry but she was saddened that they must be parted so. He had a different idea of when they should part.
His kiss, which was unexpected, felt perfect to her. Her own lips responded ardently to his. When it ended she smiled and moved a step back. If they stayed too close she knew she would not be able to part with him. "Understand..." She left the sad smile on her face, "I will be thinking of you every moment of every day but we have to be patient."

K'leren sighed, but smiled when she pulled back from him. He knew exactly why she had: if they were too close, he'd never let her go. "I know. And please know that I feel the same way about you." He let her go completely, though his heart ached to defy his good sense. "But soon enough, we will be together, and there will be nothing anyone can do about it at all." He spoked good-naturedly, though defiantly.
You must leave. F'sen is coming now. Nemenath sounded very proud, of both himself and of his rider. It was understandable; K'leren rarely shared his feelings.
"Nemenath says F'sen is done with his dinner and is on his way back here." His features betrayed his feelings--sadness and frustration. "I better go. Hang up your painting and think of me."

Ruet felt suddenly empty. It was strange and incomparable to anything she had felt before. "I know." Her eyes fell to the floor because she couldn't watch him leave. The painting would be a constant reminder. Still she knew at least that Sharieth was closer and closer to rising. In fact it could be any day now.
F'sen came in just as K'leren left. "So, back again was he?" Ruet nodded and showed F'sen the painting. He just glanced at it for a moment and went to take a bath. She sat looking at the painting for some time. So that when F'sen returned he seemed concerned about her.
It was the very next morning when Ruet woke to feel the anger and wrath of Sharieth's most foul mood. Sharieth's 3rd flight was about to begin.
