Rue looked back up at him when he spoke. "Oh no. Its nothing..." Shegave him a weak smile. Ruet was not one to let her feelings come out in the open or her personal life. She was suprised he hadn't asked where F'sen was. She was wandering the Weyr alone at night. Not normal for a woman with a mate.
Her eyes grew dreamy for a few minutes she had always been a dreamer. HEr imagination as vivid as any child. When she decided to come back to the real world, she realized he must find her odd now. Most peoople did. She was strange, ethereal... her parents had had a time of it explaining her to other people in her home hold.

K'leren was still concerned, but he let it drop. It wouldn't do to bother her about. Her weak smile had not assuaged his concern at all, but simply made more of it. Her gaze became unfocused; she surely must be thinking about something else. The bronzerider quietly sipped his klah--which, incidentally, he liked with a lot of milk and sweetening--and mused on his own questions. Where the Fall was F'sen, for one, and why hadn't he been with his Weyrmate when she walked the dark halls at night? At first, K'leren hadn't cared where the other man was, as long as Ruet was with someone who could protect her. But the more he thought about it, the more it rankled him, and he felt his disrespect towards the man grow. Controlling this disgust in his voice, he looked at Ruet. "So, where is F'sen this evening? I have not failed to notice his absence with you."

F'sen... hmmm... well it was her own fault she didn't sleep as much as he did. Nothing ever troubled the man. What could she say to K'leren. The truth was probably best. "He is asleep." She responded without much emotion. That probably did not sound right now that she thought about it.
Ruet looked at K'leren to see his reaction. Sipping some of her klah she continued. "Im usually up much later than he is." That could definately be taken more than one way. Either it meant sh was avoiding him or he was avoiding her and either way it wasn't normal. Rue couldn't help that she had no feelings for the man no more than she could help not wanting to bed him. Mating flights were it for the most part. She had tried for a time but it hadn't been right.

"I see." K'leren had noticed the lack of inflection in her voice when she said he was asleep. He frowned. That wasn't good. Her next words confirmed his theory.
"I'm usually up much later than he is." K'leren would bet pieces of his dragon's bronze hide that that meant they weren't participating in bedtime activities. Her tone of voice made it clear that she didn't care, or at least, had no feelings for F'sen.
At this, he felt heartened. "Lady, it may be too bold, but it would seem to me that you hold no affection for F'sen?" he asked, eyes searching hers for any emotion that might flare up there.

Ruet blushed ever so slightly at his assumptions. What could she say to that? She really shouldn't look at the man when he was gazing at her like that. "I...well...its complicated." She answered knowing it was incomplete. He wasn't going to understand the situation if she didn't explain.
"F'sen is a good man. It isn't that he has ever treated me ill. On the contrary, he has always been good to me. I feel like we could be great friends." At this next she hesitated, why was she telling this to another Bronzer. He better not say anything to F'sen. As it was, she had nto had a chance to talk to F'sen herself. "He isn't..." She tried to make it seem there was something wrong with him but it wa sher. "Actually, I am not, well, I do not love him."

The blush was light, but he saw it in the glittering firelight. "I...well...it's complicated," she ended, somewhat lamely. He nodded.
"I understand, Ruet."
She gave her explanation, and couldn't have made it clearer that she was uncomfortable, other than saying so. "I do not love him."
K'leren nodded. "You have heartily different personalities, if you'll pardon my saying so. I can understand what you mean, but I do apologize if I embarrassed you." He smiled sympathetically. He could identify; there were plenty of women who wanted him, but he didn't want to have a thing to do with them.

The Bronzerider was being so calm about it. He hadn't immediately started to flirt with her or anything. For that she was glad. He was a good man, this K'leren. She would remember that. Rue let a small smile come to her face. "You do not need to apologize. It suprises me that most the Weyr is not talking about our personal problems already." One could always count on drudges to start rumors. It was like being the Lady Holder... everyone knew what you were doing every moment of every day.
"I know so little about you, K'leren. Do you have a mate?" She asked innocently. She was asking for more than she would admit to herself. The klah warmed her hands. It was becomning a bit chilly. Moving her arms she got her shaw to hug her body more tightly. So that it covered her shoulders and her back well.

K'leren laughed quietly. "Aye, that is true. The gossip abounds around this place," he told her. He smiled. She changed the subject slightly.
"I know so little about you, K'leren. Do you have a mate?"
K'leren smiled sadly. "'Fraid not, Ruet," he told her. "I just can't seem to find one I like well enough." He shrugged. "I keep looking, though," he added.

She wasn't really looking for anyone. Ruet had always held an idealized veiw of love, which made it hard for her to actually commit to love without knowing if it was true or not. She could see no real reason why K'leren would have no mate. There were plenty of women at the Weyr.
"It is hard to wait for the right person." She spoke softly, more saying it more for herself than to him. She finished her klah, though the liquid had left a rather bad aftertaste. Something she had grown used to since becoming Jr. Weyrwoman. She was staring intot he fire, being quiet... as she normally would be. It was a comfortable silence, not an akward one.

K'leren nodded. "Aye," was all he said. Sipping more sweet klah, he followed her gaze to the fire. They sat quietly together, and K'leren was feeling quite warm and good.
Her words on F'sen were interesting and yet, not surprising. He realized that he'd seen that they weren't...very affectionate. Oh, F'sen was nice enough, he knew, but Ruet needed more than just that. This woman needed someone to be passionate for her, and for her to be able to return that feeling.
Once again...you think you can be that person? Nemenath repeated, but this time, more seriously.
I don't know. I like her, but I can't really tell why.
Who knows? Maybe you ought to ask for her company at another time as well.
I don't think so. F'sen wouldn't take too kindly to that. I may just have to wait for the next flight...are you up for it?
The dragon snorted. I would have had her last time, if that d**nable bronze Terynth hadn't swooped in front of me. It was an exaggeration, but Terynth made a good scapegoat.
"I wonder, Lady Ruet, if you'd like to come have lunch with me tomorrow?" K'leren asked, surprising even himself. Dammit, Nemenath.
You needed help.

Ruet was daydreaming as usual. It felt good to just sit in the silence, while still being in the company of another. She felt very comfortable and relaxed. Her eyes left the fire when she heard his voice. Inadvertantly noting that she liked the sound of it. There was no reason why she couldn't have lunch with him tomorrow. Sharieth would want her to, Lyrai as well.
"I would like that." She smiled at him...feeling a bit like a girl with a crush. Ruet hoped he would not read too deeply into her smile but at the same time wanted to be noticed by him. Men weren't confusing, it was the sharding emotions they brought with them.
She saw the drudges extinguishing some of the glows and realized how late it must be. F'sen would know she had been out later than usual. "It seems time has slipped from my thoughts yet again. I'd best be getting to bed."

"Aye, Lady." K'leren had noticed her smile, so young, but so refined. He smiled back. "I insist upon walking you back to your quarters, I'm afraid. My honor won't permit me otherwise." And neither will my dragon.
Too bloody right.
He rose from his seat. Extending his hand for hers, he smiled at her at his very handsomest.

"Thank you, Bronzerider." She spoke with the formality he had used. Though she liked formalities it was becasue they reminded her of the bed time stories told to children. Chivalry and such things were something of dreams. That at least was what people at home had told her. The Weyr was quite different. After four turns it still suprised her.
Her hand slid into his as though it had always been there. It felt good... she thought to herself. If Shari were awake for this Ruet would be getting a lecture or two. The Queen was usually correct anyway. As she stood, his smile nearly unglued her. She had seen handsome men but there was something about his smile that was different. Rue kept her composure, thankfully. Now she really felt like a younger girl.

K'leren led Ruet out to the corridor and up the internal stairs. It wa sa little chilly, so he pulled her a little closer so she would be warm. Staying silent, he reflected. This was much better than the game, he thought. And I got lunch with the Weyrwoman tomorrow too. Good. He smiled at this, and was well-pleased with Nemenath for pushing him to it.
When they finally arrived at the Weyrwoman's chambers, he slowed. "Here you are, m'lady Ruet," he said, reluctant to let her had go. He did, though. "Goodnight, and sweet dreams."

Ruet found that she didn't need to talk with K'leren. The first person at the Weyr who seemed perfectly comfortable with her not talking. She found herself enjoying being close to him. Why she had these strange feelings, she did not know, but Sharieth would have good advice for her no doubt.
They stood outside her weyr, she let go of his hand when he had let go of hers. Already missing the warmth that was there, she looket up at him. "Thank you." She was glad she would be seeing him again, for parting now was made easier with that knowledge. "I will sleep very well. Rest easy and don't take that bandage off." She half scolded but the concern in her voice was unreproachable. Rue had a hard time saying goodnight to this man. "Until tomorrow." She smiled at him and turned to enter her own weyr.
