"Um..." Once again I'slen was stunned to speachlessness. Left sitting alone in the cold water the bronzerider raked his face with his hands. Dumb, that was sharding dumb. What in the world had he been thinking. As she wrapped the towel around herself he remained where she was. Wes, tell Amenth to make sure she gets back. The sleepy bronze relayed the message adding some all too loving croons of his own. I'slen raked his hands through his hair again, she was right he was a downright idiot. All gas and ash, he could feel Wes's loving touch but right now... Shaffitt, he knew better than that.
So he simply sat in the chill water, letting the feel of it go through to his bones. Feya and Bey were down in the water with him cheeping and trying to get his attention. I'slen watched them, and picked up both lizards. As they curled against him he sighed again. He was a wherry brained fool that was what he was.

Tujal shifted from foot to foot, as though she were back on the sands as a candidate.
I'm sorry. I didn't know this would turn out like this. Amenth clearly did not understand the situation.
Of course you didn't. But now, you understand that it is tricky to mess with human emotion? Tujal's anger left at the look of helplessness on I'slen's poor face.
Yes. You're all crazy. Tujal managed a smile at that, and Amenth's warmth and love came over her, making her get all excited again.
Throwing the towel down, she raced back to the water and to the bronzerider. She slipped on the semi-slick water bottom and fell, splashing water everywhere. She scooted over to I'slen and hugged him, unsure if she'd gone too far to ever get his affections back. She wasn't sorry for what she had said...not yet. But she didn't mean to shatter his feelings.

Feya and Bey squeaked and fluttered away as they almost got squished and I'slen let out a surprised "Oof!" What in the world. Well now maybe it wasn't him, maybe this girl was just sharding bonkers. I'slen blinked and tried his hardest not to think about the lovely naked female body that was pressed to him. All emotional issues aside, that was really really hard to do. He turned and picked up Tujal, carrying her back to shore and setting her down.
"Alright you, dress I'm taking you back to your bed. You'll catch your death of cold." The bronzerider picked up her discarded towel and wrapped it back around her body. He liked how tall she was, a woman any shorter would have been awkward. I'slen planted a kiss on the crown of her head in an almost filial gesture. Then he grabbed his own clothes and put them on. Damp skin and sand aside, hed get her settled then get properly clean. The girl was going to be the death of him, really she was.

AHA! Lips! Granted, it was as a father kisses his daughter goodnight, but she chose to ignore that part. Two could play a game like this. And what was life, but a game? Nothing, she decided. Turning away from him, she smirked as she dried off and pulled on a tunic. "When you say you are taking me to my bed, do you mean you shall be joining me? Or, since your weyr is a might more private, do you mean, 'I'm taking you back to my bed'? I'm just wondering, it's all a question of semantics, really." She pulled on her britches first and turned and pinched his hind end. Giggling, it seemed to her as though she'd never been angry. He had hurt her feelings and embarrassed her, sure, but there was plenty of time to torture him and see him writhe for that one. She grinned. Once again, her plan was working.

He turned around slowly, grey eyes cool. "Don't say that till you're ready for it dearie, some men don't know a bluff when they see one." I'slen turned and started walking back to the Weyr. Really he'd had enough of these rampant mood swings for one evening. It had been bad enough when he had first met her. But instead of her impression to Amenth smoothing things out she seemed worse than ever. And predictably all this rampant energy was directed at himself. Tujal made him feel twice his age sometimes. What he really wanted was for her to mean that bit about going to bed with him But she hadn't and something told him she might never want to. He, a bronzerider and her Weyrling Master was wrapped neatly around her finger. I'slen had pretty much been there since he'd met the brat and it was starting to chafe.
Covering his mouth, he yawned hugely. Why did it seem she always plagued him the worst when he was tired. Maybe he was just always tired these days. He was sandy and damp and wanted nothing more to be clean and go to bed. He stopped and turned around to look at Tujal. "Comming Lady?"

Tujal nodded, still smiling. "But I hope you'll pardon me if I don't think you're just any man, Weyrlingmaster." She walked next to him, looking down at the ground, and wishing she had a firelizard to pet right now.
You have me. Come up here and give me a good scratching, Amenth said. She knew Tujal didn't really want to be left alone, even though that's wht she had said.
I will, the rider replied gladly, happy that her dragon was not angry at her. And I'm sorry for yelling at you. Really, I am.
That's okay. Sometimes I lose my temper too. Tujal smiled. Quietly, she walked alongside the older man. He was so frustrating sometimes, but so was she, she mused. She wondered if her ardor for the man was wrong, if she was just prolonging the inevitable heartbreak that could come from any relationship she chose to have with him. Maybe you should...how's the phrase? 'Get to know him'? Ask him some stuff, Amenth told her, ever the fountain of wisdom.
Good idea, Amenth! "Hey, Master I'slen, how did you get to be Weyrling Master anyway?"

Rolling his eyes at the comment, the bronzerider was forced to bite his tounge to keep back an acerbic comment. Feya and Bey swooped and circled around the two riders' heads, chripping about one thing or another. The little creatures were terrible gossips. I'slen keep walking, his mind running through any number of unpleasant thoughts but when Tujal asked about how he'd gotten his job the rider cocked an eyebrow in her direction. This was the first time he could remember her showing any genuine intrest in him other than to pester and prod.
After a moment he did speak, phrasing his thoughts carefully. He was pretty sure she was up to something, she always was. "Well I was always good with kids and Weseaneth is very good on Search, hes never found a Candidate that didn't Impress." And that in itself was very true, he didn't mention the death of the old Weyrling Master in the first threadfall. Somethings were best left unsaid, and J'ron's death had been caused by a grevious error on his part. Not only that but it had caused the death of two Weyrlings he'd been in charge of. I'slen had vowed that such a thing would never happen under his watch. He could remember the names of all the Weyrlings he'd ever lost, his grey eyes fell. It was not an easy job but these days nothing really was.

Tujal looked up. "I have heard that said, about Weseaneth. And he did Search me," she said, smiling. "Though I bet sometimes you wish he hadn't," she said darkly. She noticed that he had looked sadly after his bit, and she knew after that that she couldn't, and wouldn't push him to tell her the whole story. It would probably hurt to bad for him, and she regretted even asking him in the first place. It felt weird to bug him about information about himself instead of bugging him just to bug him.
Ask him about Weseaneth. Or their Impression! Amenth was simply full of good suggestions, and Tujal thanked her.
"Tell me about the day you Impressed Weseaneth," she said, mentally adding, which must be a happier memory than becoming Weyrling Master.

I'slen didn't really catch the purposfull change in topic but he did smile down at Tujal. Remembering one's Impression had that effect on all dragonriders. "Well lets see," He mused aloud. "I was a weyrbrat and standing at my third Hatching when Wes hatched. He was fourth or fitfh and easily the largest bronze in the clutch." I'slen nearly preened, he was proud of the dragon like nothing else and complimenting the bronze easily got anyone into the Weyrling Master's good graces. A tactic many Weyrlings were wise to use.
"He found me right away, and we've been together ever since. He's out of Weseth you know." She was easily one of the largest Queens on Pern and of Fort blood. But then if Weseaneth had been born out of a wherry no doubt I'slen would be just as proud.

Tujal smiled. This question had gotten her desired effect. "No, I didn't know, actually." He had smiled at her, and that made her smile back. She moved a little closer to him, just to catch a sniff of his scent--it was a masculine smell, and, of course, tinted with the spice of dragon. She allowed herself to smile as the wind brought the smell to her nose. Perfect, of course. She sneezed. "Hope I'm not getting a cold," she mumbled to herself, hoping he hadn't caught the tinkering sound. She had tried to sneeze quietly, but she was right next to him now.
She smiled, as inspiration struck again. This could turn out badly, she knew, but she wanted to know. "Why is it that someone like you, so handsome and nice, isn't weyrmated yet?"

I'slen shot her a look as she sneezed. "Silly cluntch I told you you'd get sick. You'd better take care of that. Bundle up and sleep next to Amenth." The Weyrling Master shrugged slowly at her question. "Well too busy mostly and I guess I just never found the right woman." It wasn't that he lacked for partners, in fact most of the time it was the opposite. But like he'd said, there hadn't been a woman he'd been willing to settle down with. A knot twisted in the base of his stomach and he told it to go away. Tujal obviously had no interest in him and it would be very unhonorable to persue that any further.
"I'm really just too busy taking care of you kids." He ruffled Tujal's hair affectionately. No matter what he still cared for the girl. Anything further than their current relationship seemed as out of grasp as the Red star. It would figure, the one woman he did feel something more for wanted little to do with him. Ah well, eggs cracked as they would.

Tujal was a quick learner, and she only twitched slightly when he called her a kid and ruffled her hair. She batted his hand away and looked up at him. "I am not a kid, I'slen," she said, blushing and hoping he'd know what she was talking about. He seemed to understand how she felt a few minutes ago...maybe she'd confused him by jumping up and getting angry. Or maybe he was just as thrush-headed as he appeared.
Still walking along, she grabbed his hand. She pulled back, for him to stop with her.

The bronzerider stopped and looked down at the hand then up at Tujal. No she was right, she was hardly a child... but how else could he stop himself from doing what he wanted to so desperately. "I'm sorry Tujal." He looked away, up at the walls of the Weyr bowl. Just something, anything, wishing that Weseaneth was awake and soothing his sharding heart. After a few moments he looked back at her. "But you really do need to get inside, you'll have drills early in the morning." He hoped he showed nothing other than fatherly concern.
What use was it to be infatuated with a girl half your age and under your care. Out of all the women in the Weyr, he had to want the one he couldn't have. Really he was all gas and ash, what foolishness.

Tujal sighed at him, grinding her teeth. This was a difficult thing for her to do, even with her buku amounts of confidence that she always had. Luckily, a great deal of the Weyr's dragons had gone to sleep now, so their voices didn't distract her from her task. She had to be honest; these last few weeks, even just looking at him had been breaking her heart. And being honest would help them both--she'd know whether or not to back off, and he'd know how to act around her.
She pulled him closer via their hand connection. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she stood on tiptoe to be able to kiss him. Locking her lips right onto his, she kissed him soundly.

Grey eyes widening to enormous proportions, I'slen could do nothing but let her do as she would. Not that he minded at all really. In another second he was responding with more passion than he thought possible. She felt the same way he did? His mind couldn't quite grasp it. But then he really didn't need too. The tall rider wrapped his arms about Tujal and let himself drown in the taste of her. What wonders indeed.
Sense took over after several moments and he gently pulled away. His grey eyes gentle he looked down at her. "Tujal I..." What could he say, really there wasn't much he could and his mind did him the favor of drawing a complete blank.
