H’seo grinned to himself as he pulled on his second wherhide boot, stomping his foot hard against the stone of his weyr to make sure it was firmly on. Buckling on his well-worn sword, the wingrider strode to the couch where his blue waited, impatient to be off. The rider raised a brow and smirked mischievously at the dragon, pulling his short hunting bow off the wall and securing his quiver to his riding straps. In a hurry, partner? The tall man asked, sure to take his sweet time in completing his last simple tasks. Truth be told, he was just as anxious to see Elske as His was her dragon, but Reinth had never been interested in a green before and this was the first chance he had to tease the beast about a female. He could not pass that up. The blue’s tail thumped rhythmically on the stone, a visible sign of his impatience alongside his swiftly whirling eyes. He was looking rather forward to seeing his lady again, immeasurably remorseful when she had to leave his ledge to return to her own rider. He liked her curled up beside him at night. Rather. Be quicker. I want to see Isleith. Reinth said shortly, obviously annoyed with the man’s teasing.
The wingrider burst out laughing, doubling over and shaking his head with mirth. His dragon had always been such a shy, backwards one that greens never did pay attention to him, but now that Isleith had seen him for one night he was already completely besotted. H’seo finally mastered himself and swung up onto the blue’s neck, holding the riding straps firmly in his hand. Alright, partner, let’s go. I can’t have you bein’ all upset. He drawled, grinning when they leapt towards the bowl. Ask Isleith to let Elske know we’re comin’.
Rumbling happily, Reinth could not have been more pleased to comply. Isleith? My rider and I come. Are you and Yours ready to go? The blue asked as they landed outside the Alpha weyrs, crooning softly. Seeing her soon would not be soon enough.
H’seo, for his part, was anxious to see the greenrider, and he had plenty of spots picked out they could visit. The lady had said she wished to see the land about Ponaa, and the bluerider had chosen the most exotic and interesting locations he had found. He aimed to please her, at least. Swinging down from Reinth’s neck, the tall man leaned against his dragon’s leg and crossed his arms, his trademark grin on his face. He had wished to see Elske again...and he only hoped she would continue to see him. Along with the boots, he wore fitted pants, a white jerkin, and his traditional vambraces. He cut a stark picture, but was ruggedly handsome, nonetheless.

Elske took several candlemarks the night before simply deciding what she was going to wear. Obviously she would have to wear her leathers for flying but she had to plan carefully what to wear underneath them. AS much as she liked her hair she had pulled up and away from her face in a ponytail. Simply put, it was annoying her and she didn't want to deal with it. Isleith had recieved a bath the day before so she was completely prepared to go when Reinth contacted her. They are here. Isleith said waiting for her rider to be completely ready.
The green was not the patient sort but had been through this before. Elske was never ready when it came to going to see a man. She finished dressing deftly and quickly. Her shoes were on next and a lot harder to put on. Why did they take so long? Elske was much too impatient to deal with anything that took longer than a minute to do. Her leathers were a worn brown though they were still in good condition she had bought them about the time she moved to Ponaa.
One more second and she had a small pack of things attached to Isleith's riding straps.We are ready now Reinth. Isleith said as if she had been patient long enough. Elske climbed up onto her green as quickly as was possible and strapped herself in. Alright lets go meet them.
Iseith flew towards Reinth and H'seo and had soon landed beside them. This was going to be fun. Elske could hardly contain her excitement as she smiled over at H'seo. The green wanted to get going so that she could get these charring straps off and enjoy herself.

H’seo grinned to himself when he spotted Isleith’s form gliding down towards them, pulling on his flight jacket over his jerkin. Stepping onto his blue’s outstretched foreleg, the tall man pulled himself up and winked at the greenrider. He hadn’t known if she planned on dismounting or not, but as soon as the pair landed he could tell they were impatient to be off. He wanted to be ready just in case she had something to do before they left, but he was also ready to take off if they wished. Practiced hands made quick work of strapping himself down, then the bluerider gave his dragon the signal to take flight. He was planning on making their outing a long one, so he had also packed some meatrolls, fruit, and bread. The wingrider knew plenty of springs as well, so he did not bother to take any drinks.
Reinth, as the green landed, rumbled happily in his chest, glad to have the lady at his side once again. Isleith, I hope you have fun today. The blue said, arching his neck so he could meet her eyes. He touched his nose briefly to hers before his rider had him take off, and the dragon relayed the image of where they were going to her. When he was sure she had a very clear and vivid picture, they betweened.
~~~~~~~
In the forest, far from the weyr, the blue burst into the air, bringing the chill of the void with him. The pair circled until their lady companions arrived beside them, then began to glide lazily downward. Beneath them was a good-sized clearing about four dragonlengths long, with dense jungle about it. The meadow in itself was a pretty sight, but their true destination lay where dragons could not land. Reinth settled himself easily on the grass, watching with eyes whirling blue as Isleith landed as well. H’seo dropped down from the dragon’s back easily, striding over to the green and grinning at her rider.
“Howdy, Elske. I hope you’re doin’ well?” H’seo drawled, inclining his head towards her. The bluerider then grinned and turned, pointing towards a certain point in to forest. “There’s a place I want to show you, m’lady, but there ain’t enough room to land a dragon there. We’re just gonna have to hoof it from here. I’ll get Reinth unharnessed, then these two can play in the water. Let me know if I can help you with anythang.” The tall man then made his way back to his dragon, slapping the blue’s neck affectionately. He buckled his quiver to his back, unsealing the top before he did so. The rider always sealed his arrows in between, for the severe cold could make them brittle. With that chore done, his bow slung over his shoulder and their lunch shouldered in a pack, H’seo piled his riding straps and flight jacket under a small rock formation jutting out at the end of the clearing. He always found this to be handy spot to land in.
“Here, m’lady, let me.” The wingrider said politely as Elske finished, picking up her riding straps as well and carrying them over to join his. He was very careful to keep them untangled. “Alright, we’ll head off now. Play nice, you two.” He drawled mischievously, grinning at an answering bugle from Reinth. The blue raised himself in the air, waiting like a gentleman for the green to join him before taking off. On the ground, H’seo smiled at Elske, holding out his hand to her. “Ready, m’lady?”
Would you come with me, Isleith? I want to you see something. Reinth asked, crooning to her as he did. He wanted to share his favorite spot with her. The blue had never shown it to another dragon, and he wanted her to be the first.
The greenrider laughed at his wink and waited for Isleith to recieve the location. From the look of things the boys were just as excited to be off as they were themselves. She was so happy to be getting away from the Weyr for once that she had not really thought about needing to bring food. Elske lived in one Weyr or another her entire life and knew nothing of life outside of it. This would indeed be an experience.
Not a moment after the blue came out of between Isleith did as well. She was soon landing and waiting anxiously for her rider to dismount and take her riding straps off. H'seo was coming towards them before she had a chance to dismount. Elske was admiring the beauty of the meadow which her dragon did not appreciate much. What could be more beautiful than her, after all. She dismounted easily. More at ease on a dragon than on her own two feet at times, Elske never had trouble with anything that had to do with riding a dragon.
Else smiled back at H'seo. "Really?" She hadn't had to walk anywhere that Isleith couldn't take her to directly. Well not anywhere other than indoors. Marvelous, she thought to herself. Letting Isleith have fun without being with her rider the whole time they were out was going to make her a very happy dragon. She took the straps off completely, when H'seo returned to take them from her.
Isleith took to the skies after Reinth and was equally suprised that she could not take her rider the whole route. What is it? She asked with the curiosity of a child. She would have gone with him anyway but this made things more interesting.
Elske took his hand without a second thought all the while smiling. It was obvious that she was excited but he couldn't know if it were just the outing or more than that. She would have been excited to see him on any day without the fun excursion they had planned. The greenrider wouldn't complain though. This was going to be something new for her and something she would likely remember forever. He was the right person to have such a memory with. Unable to completely contain her curiosity either she asked, "Where are we going?"
((Every time I write a post for these two, I can’t help but think of that song ‘Ladies Love Country Boys’. Lol, it’s the whole ‘southern boy drawl’ and ‘farmer’s tan’ part. And one of these day’s I’m gonna have to have him say “That’s not a knife....THIS is a knife.” ))
H’seo was inwardly pleased when he noted that Elske was looking about the meadow appreciatively, glad that she found the beauty in nature like he did. He wasn’t sure if she would love the outdoors as much as he did, but he could introduce her to the best of it and hope. The constant smile on her face heartened him, and he grinned in return. He loved seeing a woman happy. “Faranth’s own truth, m’lady. The forest is too thick to land a dragon there.” The bluerider explained before taking her riding straps. She had told the wingrider when they met that she had never been out of Ponaa before, so he fully intended to make this day a real experience for her. The tall man extended his scarred hand, grinning when the greenrider took it without hesitation. Her excitement was contagious, and it made him feel pretty sharding good that she was this happy to be with him.
He led her towards the edge of the clearing, grinning to himself when she curiously asked about their destination. H’seo was rather loathe to divulge the full extent of all he had planned for her, but a little hint would not hurt. “Well, there’s a cave.” He drawled, glancing back at her mischievously. His grey eyes were bright with mirth, and the bluerider laughed. “I hate ta’ ruin it, Elske. I’d rather you see with your own eyes.” His voice pleaded with her on the matter, and the farmboy hoped she would leave him his surprise. He held her hand firmly as they entered the forest, sure to keep her at his side. There were too many dangerous things in the wild as well, just as much as there was beauty, actually. The tall man would never forgive himself if harm befell her. “Stay close, though, m’lady. Lots of drop-offs and sinkholes out here.”
Now, one could see a different side of H’seo than when he was at the weyr. The bluerider was a amiable, cheerful man, always grinning and lighthearted, but out here the man knew caution was of gravest importance. He was an experienced hunter, and by habit he unslung his shortbow from his shoulder and held it tightly in his free hand. The rider was a farmboy from birth, and a farmboy at heart, so he was more used to the rougher things in life. He briefly wondered if Elske would find the unrefined parts of him distasteful, but he did not think her so superficial. He saw so much more in her than that. He was not one of those prettyboys that were born high and like to live high, never getting their hands dirty or doing a decent day of hard work. H’seo was rough around the edges, a gentleman at heart and always polite and kind with the ladies, but lacking the finesse and cultured habits of the blue-blooded. Many woman found that rough, artless aspect of his a turn-off, but if a lady wanted a man that would shoot straight and only get his dander up over her happiness, then he was the man. Having the greenrider at his side put him in a wonderful mood, however, and H’seo could only grin.
Reinth made an excited loop in the air, trumpeting his laughter to the skies in a ringing peal. My favorite haunt. The blue said merrily, coming to hover at her side. His eyes whirled excitedly, and his voice was filled with an equal child-like anticipation. I have never shown it to another dragon. He said secretively, then flew a short distance away. Let’s fly straight, Isleith–it will take our riders far longer than us to get there.
Of course, she believed him. He knew more about the land than she did. Though both Isleith and herself were good with geography for the most part it was hard to tell where anything was on the ground. They were much more used to an aerial view of the world. Elske held on to H'seo's hand lightly. The forest was much quieter than the Weyr. Every so often there was a rustle in the trees or the undergrowth, even a bird sang now and again but the sound of any humans other than themselves could not be heard.
Nearly tripping over a root, Elske moved even closer to H'seo. The bluerider knew the area. Elske, however, did not and had not been inside a forest in a very long time. It amazed her how simple life could be out in the woods. There were no real pressures here, even the trees seemed to understand that here there was nothing to do with the fast paced life of the human world, here was for peace and quiet. The small animals that querulously looked on them even seemed to mark their intrusion as a minor one and remained watching perhaps even waiting for them to leave the area so that they might return to what they were doing beforehand.
As much as Elske admired the woods she often found herself admiring H'seo too. The Blue rider was a highly competent individual. He knew more than she had given him credit for at first. Everyone had their talents and though hers were limited to dragonriding others had talents that went far beyond Weyr life. This seemed to be the case with the charming man before her.
Isleith was suprised at Reinth's excitement. As he spoke she realized he must think her very special. Delighted by this she excitedly followed the blue. It must be a very special place.
H’seo was very aware of Elske when she moved closer to him, instinctively reaching out to steady her when she almost tripped. His hand tightened slightly around hers, and he gave her a reassuring grin as she closed the distance between them. His grey eyes wandered to her often as they walked, the silence between them comfortable and companionable rather than awkward. It seemed she had decided to leave him his surprise, which pleased the wingrider to no end. It was simple pleasures like this that made him happy, but being with the greenrider made him even more so. The farmboy liked having her with him, for sure, and was unable to stop himself from looking at her often. He watched her every time they stepped over a dense area of root or vine, and his hand tightened ever so slightly when they skirted the ravine near their destination.
Every so often, the bluerider would point out things he saw to the lady, like an exotic animal perched high in the trees, or a rare flower that did not grow around civilized areas. H’seo’s voice was soft, and he grinned whenever she liked whatever he showed her. After about a half-candlemark of traveling so, the tall man paused, turning to the greenrider at his side. Grinning, he pointed just ahead of them, where the ground seemed to drop off behind an impenetrable wall of dense foliage. “We’re close now, m’lady.” He drawled slowly, releasing her hand to push aside some of the more pliable growth. Pulling back the leaves and vines, he revealed a trail that lead right at an incline. If one looked straight ahead, there was nothing was a rock wall opposite the edge where they stood, but looking around the trees to the right, where the path lead, there was a low valley situated between the two sheer cliffs. A waterfall tumbled out of the rock face, no doubt fed by a river through an underground tunnel, which fell into a large lake nestled in the valley. A cavernous opening in the rock signaled the entrance to the cave the bluerider spoke of.
Grinning, H’seo turned to the woman with him, taking the greenrider’s hand and gently leading her beside him. Holding the foliage back, he pointed to the right so she could get a good view of the valley. “What do you think, Elske?” He asked, his farmboy drawl even thicker when he spoke so softly. The bluerider wanted nothing more than to give her an exciting and happy experience outside the weyr’s walls, and hoped the spot he picked would please her. In the lake, he noted with amusement, were two large forms splashing happily in the calm waters, one blue and the other green. It did not take much to guess who they were.
Reinth craned his neck around so he could see Isleith as he flew, thrilled to have the green so close to him again. It is. He said softly, hoping that she could tell how happy he was to have her with him. He flew steadily over the trees, basking in the companionship, until the valley came into view. Here it is, Isleith! The blue said excitedly, backwinging to hover as the lady dragon glided beside him. He watched her happily for a moment, sure that she would find the waterfall and huge lake just as fun as he did, then crooned in excitement. Shall we swim?
For her part, Elske was fascinated. She took in what he was saying as best she could but doubted she would remember that much of it. The bluerider was slightly distracting, in a good way. More than once she caught him looking her way. The greenrider knew that he was showing her a different world, his world and that he wanted her to enjoy it as much as he did. There was more than one occasion she had done so herself but for people who were not from the Weyr, she showed it to them and watched the faces change to those of awe.
As he showed her the view of where they would be spending the day she grinned. "Wow." It was almost a whisper the word was said so softly. The water seemed to sparkle from the sun's light falling on it and the trees were lush and green. The cave seemed to be normal in most respects but then it was only there because they may need shelter. Especially Elske, since her ivory skin tended to burn easily under the sun's rays. As she continued to let her green eyes scan the entire area she noted a few other interesting things, before resting them on H'seo. "Its beautiful." She leaned up into him and gave him a fast kiss.
It hadn't taken her very long to see Isleith and Reinth playing in the water. She wasn't suprised that they were getting along at all. Isleith liked male attention after all and there were very few blues she did not like. In fact she wouldn't be suprised if the green were more than Reinth bargained for.
There was no response from the green as she dove into the water. Isleith liked to swim; it was soothing. I can see now it is a very special place.
H’seo grinned when the lady’s green eyes came to rest on his own, the expression upon her face worth much to him. The tall man had dearly wished to make this day memorable for her, and enjoyable. Judging by her soft voice and the look she wore, it seemed he had succeeded. “I’m glad you like it, m’lady.” The bluerider drawled, about to take her hand and lead her further when she stopped him with her kiss. The moment she leaned into him, he froze for just an instant in surprise, but when he felt her lips his entire body snapped back to life. H’seo had not been expecting that, but the quick kiss was by far unwelcome. In fact, it was quite welcome indeed. “Beautiful? Aye.” He drawled softly, grinning crookedly. However, it was not the valley the rider was looking at when he spoke.
Releasing the dense foliage so it would snap back into place, the tall man stepped back, grinning at the greenrider as he did. “Now, I know you remember me a-sayin’ that there wasn’t enough room to land a dragon where we were going. There’s plenty of room in that valley...but we ain’t going there yet.” H’seo strode over to the left a few paces, inspecting the edge of the ravine they had just skirted. “Around here, there is a small path leadin’ down....and here she is.” The bluerider said triumphantly, pointing to a rocky path that appeared to be trampled down by some heavy creature. There were tracks in the stony dirt, ones that were almost indiscernible to the untrained eye. It was a very narrow path, and steep, and it would be perilous if one tread it carelessly. Striding back to the woman’s side, H’seo’s grey eyes sought hers, and he took her hand. “Elske, it’s rough goin’ for a while, but I promise you it’s worth it. I won’t let anything happen to you. Will ya try it?” He asked, his drawl as prominent as ever.
He had been down that trail many times, and knew every rock, weak area, and firm handholds along it. H’seo had often traveled the rocky ravine just to reach the spring and overhang at the end, where something far more fascinating than just a valley made it’s home. The bluerider knew most of the land as well as he did his own weyr, and that was not just an idle boast. He and his brothers spent their spare time in their youth hunting out here, and after he became a rider the tall man spent more and more of his leisure candlemarks exploring what the Southern Continent had to offer. Many of his wingmates wondered at how he had not acquired a firelizard yet, but the farmboy did not want a pet. He had, naturally, chanced upon many clutches through his travels, but moved on and left the eggs undisturbed. Focusing his attention fully on the greenrider’s face, H’seo waited for her reply.
Reinth was surprised when the green dove into the water without a word, but was pleased when she finally did reply. I like swimming here better than the beach; the water is cleaner. The blue said amiably, folding his wings and freefalling like a stone. With a great splash, the dragon hit the water and dove, almost touching the bottom with his claws. He did, however, make sure to stay far enough away so he did not endanger the lady with him. I like the waterfall, too. What do you want to do, Isleith? He asked, swimming over to her when she surfaced. It was obvious Reinth was just as eager to please his lady as his rider was.
The sweet bluerider had not seen that coming. She needed to be careful. Elske would not want to break his heart for even if he seemed to have had lovers in the past everything he had done so far convinced her that his heart was already in this. She knew better didn't she? Of course she did... one shouldn't let the heart get involved at all, thats how one got hurt.
Coming back from her thoughts his question rung in her ears. Would she try it? Elske took only a second to look down the path and with a calm and determined look about her she replied, "Yes. I will." She was always up for a challenge. IT made her what she was, a woman in a men's world... and not just a woman, a woman who rode a thread fighting dragon. If he had not already guessed, Elske liked the thrill of it all and the immense amoutn of freedom she felt. Isleith's back was more a home to her than any place on Pern even if it was a very dangerous place to be at times.
As he finished speaking, H'seo looked even more concerned. She could handle anything. "Don't worry. I trust you." Elske wanted him to take the lead though. He knew his way around far better than she did.
Isleith splashed about in the water and did some small, dolphin like dives. Each one either brought her closer or further from the blue dragon. Indeed, salty water is itchy. This is much better. Puzzled by Reinth's second comment she looked about. Waterfall? What is waterfall?
Another grin flashed across the bluerider’s face at the woman’s reply, and he gave her a quick wink. “I’m mighty glad to hear that, Elske, and I don’t aim to ever give ya a reason not to.” H’seo drawled, and he fully meant every word. He would never give the lady a reason not to trust him. Her face looked cool and steely when she replied, and the tall man could already tell she had a fierce and unwavering will that was not easily affected. Well, all dragonriders held that quality somewhere inside their core, whether it was buried deep within them or woven throughout their entire being. The greenrider was obviously the latter, who took to every challenge in her life with the same lust and vigor.
He still held her hand, so the rider began forward, treading the precarious trail he knew so well. Every nook and cranny, every loose rock and unsteady step he avoided, all the while leading the lady behind him deftly along. Eventually, the path narrowed so he was forced to let go of her hand, but all the same the bluerider could lead her forward. “Alright, be sure to step where I do.” H’seo drawled when he released her hand, and continued carefully. It was nearly a half-candlemark or more when he stopped, for the trail had abruptly ended at a treacherous decent of jagged rocks and loose sand. Settling atop one of firm boulders set back into the side of the ravine. They were rather high up, several dragonlengths above the bottom of the ravine, which was a narrow valley of sand and dust flanked by high walls of red clay and stones. The ravine widened at their end, however, which encompassed a small pond obviously fed through an underground stream, surrounded by several sparse trees. It was still too small for a dragon to reach, though, for the high walls above them were too narrow for dragon wings.
Patting the flat rock beside him, H’seo grinned at the woman. “Alright, now all we have to do is wait, m’lady. Let’s have a bite while we do.” Unslinging the pack from his shoulder and setting his bow down beside him, the bluerider pulled out a few meatrolls and the canteen he had filled up at the one of the streams they had crossed earlier. He also had a few fruits with him, and he offered the food to the greenrider. While they were eating, the tall man told Elske about the hidden cave beneath them in the ravine wall between bites, and how he had found this area while hunting one day. He had been tracking a feline, actually, and the tracks had lead him right to the ravine path. Abruptly, he stopped speaking, his grey eyes snapping to the other end of the ravine and staring intently. A grin quickly spread across his features, and the bluerider pointed towards the curve in the ravine ahead. “Watch there, Elske. Do you hear it?” He asked, his drawl soft and quiet. A gentle rumbling could be heard, but it steadily grew louder until the runnerbeasts rounded the curve, cantering and loping easily along the path, slinging their heads and snorting. They slowly milled around the spring beneath the two riders, whickering to each other and wandering around the scraggly grass that grew in the sandy soil. In all, the herd consisted of about twelve fully grown runners and three foals. They had a front row seat high above them on the trail. “What do you think, m’lady?” H’seo asked softly, watching the greenrider.
Reinth bugled at the green’s question, more than happy to oblige. Naturally, his rider had explained the meaning of the word the first time they had discovered one of the falling waters during their adventures, and had seen so many since the blue remembered the word. A falling water, like that. He explained, pointing his nose towards the waterfall. Turning his attention back on the green, he treaded water beside her. Mine told me.
The descent was tricky. She almost lost her footing more than once but somehow she had made it through. Mostly because H'seo was there if she felt unsteady. Of course when she could no longer use him for balance she went a bit slower. Good thing she was not afraid of heights. Elske grinned at the thought. A dragonrider, afraid of heights... hahaha, that would be funny. She found herself following him with ease after a little time had gone by. It seemed both an age and a moment when he finally stopped.
It would have been silly to say that the view was breathtaking. H'seo was good at picking scenic places. Sometimes Elske wished she saw more of the land outside the Weyr but after a couple days like this she knew she would miss home. She took a seat next to H'seo. "Food would be welcome indeed." She smiled. It was a beautiful day for this, though the sun made her squint a bit.
She heard some pounding sounds just as he mentioned where to look. Right at the curve of the ravine was a herd of runners.She looked where he told her to. "Wild runners?" She asked in amazement. No she had never really spent much time thinking about things like that but still the sight of them running free gave her a sense of joy. Strange that she had no real connection with runners and feel so glad at their passing, wild and free. While enjoying the view she too began to eat.
"H'seo its amazing." she said, all smiles. He shouldn't look at her like that, Elske thought. It made her feel like a twelve turn old with a crush. The good thing about this relationship thus far was that she had not made it all about sex as she normally did. the downside was that this could definately leave her open to get hurt. She wasn't sure she could handle heartbreak again.
Can we get closer to the falling water?Isleith said curiously. when he explained that his rider had explained it to him she felt slightly less silly. She did want to see it closer though, perhaps even touch it. Falling water was strange, the water under it was white and frothy. Very very strange.
H’seo smiled to himself at the greenrider’s reaction to his little surprise, the amazement in her voice and face worth much to him. He had always found a fierce joy in watching creatures so wild and masterless, and it was something he wanted to share with the lady rider he had developed such a fondness for. “I’m mighty glad you like them, Elske.” The bluerider grinned, his voice soft so as not to disturb the runners, even though they were a good distance above them. “When I first found them, I came here every chance I got to watch them. There’s just somethin’ about their untamed freedom, I reckon.” The tall man then went silent, watching the runnerbeasts as he finished his meal. An uncharacteristically serious expression descended upon his features as he watched the herd, his grey eyes becoming a little sharp. Yes....what was it about untouched nature that pulled at a person’s soul? He usually felt more at home out here than he did at the weyr, though H’seo would never tell another rider that.
Shaking away such distracting thoughts, the bluerider focused his attention back on the woman beside him, rather thinking his short reflections would have gone unnoticed. “The runners graze in a meadow a few lengths from this ravine, but I reckon this must be the most well-protected place they could ask for to get water. I stumbled upon them one day, and found they always come here ‘round this time to drink.” H’seo drawled, placing everything back in his pack and securing it tightly. His deft hands made quick work of the chore.
The wingrider stood and walked a few paces away from the edge so the runners could not see him, and stretched. Reaching above his head, the tall man arched his back and felt the satisfying pop of muscle as he strained his body, stiff from sitting on the cold, hard rock for so long. He heard the sudden thudding of hooves, and turned in time to see the herd begin to trot away from the small pool, then break into a canter as they rounded the curve. H’seo smiled a little sadly, almost a mite depressed to see them go, then brightened considerably and turned to the greenrider. There was still much ahead to look forward to. “Alright, m’lady, we had better start heading for the valley, or we ain’t gonna have time to swim.” He drawled cheerfully, a grin upon his features as he bowed a little in her direction and offered the lady his hand.
Reinth was becoming more and more pleased with the day they were spending with the girls. Though his attention was certainly focused on the lovely green, he also checked in on his rider every so often to make sure he was alright. Things seemed to be going well for the both of them. Yes! It is fun to swim under in the deep part. It feels strange. The blue said excitedly, swimming towards the waterfall. Once before it, the dragon swiped a foreclaw through the rushing waters, the rough pressure odd as usual. It is very strong. He cautioned Isleith, moving to the side so she could see it better up close.
She finished eating during the silence they created, while watching the runners, both of them were deep into their own thoughts when H'seo began to speak again, Elske was only half listening. She wondered how runners ended up here... and in a group. It was rare for a runner to escape their farms but she supposed it could happen. For her part she had no idea whether runners were indigenous to this area or not but she had automatically assumed not.
Elske noted he was packing uo so she took a few long looks out at the scenary before looking up at H'seo who was now stretching. She found herself wondering about him again. That a man like him, with such romantic tendencies, did not have aweyrmate already puzzled her. For her it was obvious, she had no intention of settling down with any one man or woman for that matter. He, however, was not a typical bluerider. He wasn't after her for the exact reason everyone else was. Perhaps that made her like him more but she suspected she would have liked him anyway. Now she was the one who was going to have to make the tough choices... that was for another day and time. Now she was going to have fun with a handsome, romantic and altogether wonderful man.
She took his hand as offered and pulled herself up. Her motions were always fluid, like she had the body of a twenty year old still. Age would catch up to her someday but apparently it was taking its sweet time. "Well then, we better get a move on. All Isleith has told me about the water is that it falls." Elske laughed. Dragons were her life and though she hated to admit it, she couldn't last a day not thinking about them. Her whole family was that way. Dragon obsessed, she guessed but all the same they would do anything to live a dragonrider's life. Elske had always wanted to ride a fighting dragon and living that life was what made her happy. It was no wonder that she was almost constantly talking to her dragon.
The water is nice, you will like it. No itchy salt and no currrent except by where it falls.The green dragon was pleased with herself. Elske wanted to laugh at her again. Isleith turned her attention back to Reinth. The green got close enough to it that she could feel the spray of the water on her. Its like mist here...
H’seo chuckled in turn, shaking his head to himself as the lady took his proffered hand. He had to admire her grace as she straightened, and marveled at how well dragonriding seemed to suit her. “Reinth was mighty fascinated with the waterfall the first time he saw it. It took a few trips for him to remember the word, though.” Taking the lead, they made their way back up the trail to the thick forest above, and the bluerider bent back the trees and indicated the narrow descent to the valley below. “Another tricky path, m’lady. Watch yer step.” The tall, lanky man went first, feeling out the rough trail and casting his grey eyes back on the greenrider every now and then.
Once they had reached the valley, he cast a mischievous grin her way, looking far too much like an errant weyrling, and took off toward the lake. “You’ll love the swimmin’ here, m’lady. The water might be cold, but it’s no worse than the lake back home.” Quickly unshouldering his pack and setting it and his bow carefully on the ground a little distance from the waters, the bluerider pulled his tunic off and tossed it on the ground, his heavy wherhide boots not far behind. He turned to get a quick glance at the woman with him, and grinned again. He knew his farmer’s tan would be as visible as ever, his browned arms in stark contrast to his white chest. H’seo hoped that she was having as much fun as he was. “After you, Elske.” He drawled chivalrously, stepping back and bowing, a grin upon his features.
It was not anything that he would burden the lovely rider with yet, but the wingrider was certainly beginning to grow rather attached to her. H’seo had never been one to pursue romantics very far, since he was a farmboy and heart and far too naive to interest most women of the Weyr, but Elske seemed different to him. She seemed far more levelheaded than most greenriders he had been acquainted with, and also far nicer. The bluerider again grinned to himself, and began to wonder how she felt about him. He knew he liked her, and he certainly wanted to spend more time with her and get to know her more, but was it mutual? Well, he would not push her into anything, so he would merely wait for her reply.
I always like waterfalls. Reinth said happily, his tail treading water carelessly. The blue was having far too much fun, but then again so was his rider. Our riders are here! He suddenly announced, bugling a welcome to the humans. Having fun, Mine?
Always. You, partner?
Always.
