D'lon followed obediantly like a good hound. Riding runners, that was fun and exilarating. Not as fun as riding meTamurath chimed in, almost sounding insulted for the moment. D'lon was going off to have fun and Tam was just sunning on her ledge with no one to admire her. Oh well, she could use a nap.
D'lon gazed at all of them. There was one, a mare, he thought that was closest to white a runner could get. Looked like she had nice form, good fetlocks, strong shoulders and proportional. Kind eyes too, not wild like some of the runners he had seen in his day. He wanted to ride that one, "I'd like to ride that grey one on the end. I'd love it if you wanted to join me." He grinned mischieviously, "I'd have some one to race."

"Well then its her you shall have. They named her Starfire. She's four turns and very obediant. She'll give you a nice ride." He was going to ride one of his own favorites. "If its racing you want, then its racing you will get." He grinned. Dragonmen were fun. He wouldn't mind seeing them more often but the apprentice had already deterred himself from the path of dragonriding.
Taking out another saddle and bridle. He took a bay colt out of his stall. Green broke at least, he thought mirthfully. "Silly two turn old." He said as he brought the horse out of his stall to be groomed. Little would hardly be the word to describe him, at two years old he was nearing 16 hands. Telaro liked this one a lot though. They called him Allure. A good name for a mare but he was a colt. Too pretty to be a male the beastcrafters joked. Well he would grow more muscular.
"This one is a little hellion at times but he needs to get rid of some of his energy." He patted the colts, mahogany colored neck. "My, but you are a pretty thing aren't you."He smiled at the horse, who nuzzled him in the shoulder. "Okay if you are good you can have ONE carrot."

D'lon chuckled at how Telaro talked to the colt, it was not unlike how D'lon talked to his son Devon. Definate pride, the beastcrafter had towards his charges. D'lon was not unfamiliar with runner beasts, or he hadn't been. Tam had taken up most of his time since he Impressed. "He's a very beautiful colt. Will he be used for breeding? Looks to be of fine stock, but I'm not a beastcrafter so I could be wrong."
D'lon started to get Starfire ready for his ride. He admired her calmness, and jokingly said, "Why can't every woman be as sweet as you?" He of course was somewhat referring to his relationship with Devon's mother. He guessed that the entire lower cavrens knew of their situation. He loved his son, but the boy's mother almost made him want to give up on women entirely.
When the runner was saddled and bridled, D'lon mounted with every grace of a dragonrider, however he found that runners were much different after riding dragons for a while now. He realized that he probably should have waited to mount when he was outside, but rode the mare out, ducking under the door. "Ah, this will be fun, Telaro, you mark my words."

(sorry for the delay)
Telaro laughed. "He is of excellent stock. Not likely that he will be used for much of anything. The other beastcrafters think he's a menace of the worst kind. He has destroyed far too many of their things and damaged more than a little of their pride as well." Telaro finished grooming and tacking the colt when he saw D'lon ride out with Starfire. "Well looks like he doesn't have any trouble riding." He said quietly to Allure.
He mounted slowly, knowing that if the colt didn't want to be ridden he would buck a rider off without a second thought. Today seemed to be a good day for the young bay. "Alright then, lets give them a run for their money." The colt trotted out of the stable and into the sunlight. It was nearly blinding to Telaro but it seemed that Allure was having no trouble at all finding where the mare was.
Telaro smiled over at D'lon who seemed to be enjoying smoother gaits than Telaro was at the moment. The colt really needed to learn to make things comfortable or both he and his rider would be sore. This would be an experience for sure.

D'lon returned the smile and tapped the mare to burst off. If she was well trained, she'd need little encouragement. He hated to kick a runner, and would never do so, if he didn't have to. He never found reason to, fortunately. The greenrider knew this was not nearly as great as greenriding, but he found runner beast riding great fun with other people.
D'lon took off ahead, he would be chased, as usual. He didn't even think about, and Starfire took off into a gallop. D'lon laughed and threw one hand in the air, "Come and get me, Beastcrafter!"

Telaro watched as D'lon took off. Well if thats how they were going to play then Telaro would have to outwit the rider and starfire. Allure snorted and pawed at the ground. He was not anywhere near as patient as Telaro was. The man waited only a moment more to get his head in the game and then let Allure go. The colt understood that this was a chase of sorts and was not about to be held back too much. Telaro was going to have his hands full with this one.
As the pair grew closer Telaro shouted toward D'lon, "Better watch out, dragonrider!" Allure whinnied to the air after Telaro had shouted. The colt was hardly winded, but that would be the stamina of a two turn old. This one in particular was full of himself and plenty fast. Starfire was not as young but she was fully prepared to take on an unruly colt. She had more training and would be able to maintain her speed longer. Then they would have to catch up sooner rather than later.

D'lon nearly giggled as he heard Telaro shout to him, and he responded with good cheer, turning slightly, "Give me one good reason!" The greenrider patted the mare's neck, she was a good, strong girl. She wasn't young and feisty like the colt was, but she was dependable and full of stamina. Of course with the colt's burst of energy, D'lon would have to keep Starfire at a sustainable pace, and hope that Allure didn't keep up. If D'lon really wanted to win. . .
The greenrider was enjoying the speed and the wind, and the power Starfire had. He almost wished he got a chance to rider runners more often. Tamurath took a lot of his time up, and he didn't. What a good idea it had been to wander out to the stables. D'lon quickly looked around him, Allure and Telaro shouldn't be too far behind by now.

Telaro laughed and didn't answer. He let Allure loose a bit more. The runner really wanted to sprint. Telaro fortunately knew better than to let the colt expend a lot of energy quickly. He got the feeling that the greenrider enjoyed being chased. Anything for a dragonrider, Telaro thought to himself. The twenty turn old really did fine that the physical attractiveness of dragonriders was not to be found in any other profession. The Weyr was the only place where his sexual tendencies would be accepted. He couldn't help but feel at home on the runner. The wind in his face and the sun on his back. It was a lovely day for this.
He grinned to himself. Here he was using runners to seduce unsuspecting dragonriders. Personally he hoped D'lon was not one of those greenriders who thought they liked women better. It was one of those things that made him sad. If anything a greenrider should like men a lot. He had met one of those types before and it ended in heartbreak for him. He would rather meet men who preferred him to a woman. Well this he would soon find out from D'lon. The man would have to slow Starfire eventually. Then it would be time for him to let Allure make his move.

D'lon did indeed love being chase, he supposed it came with being a greenrider. D'lon knew that his runner couldn't keep the pace, and felt her sweat under his hands. He strained to see that Telaro wasn't far behind now, and made Starfire veer right, careful not to strain her too much. D'lon snickered to himself, sure that Telaro wouldn't expect it, and wanted to give the man a run for his marks.
The greenrider snickered, but noticed that Starfire was slowing, she couldn't keep such a fast pace going. The mare slowed and bit, but not a whinny from her. D'lon patted her, "Good Girl, not too much farther now. You'll deserve a good long rest, my beauty." And Starfire again did not make a peep, but D'lon was sure she understood.

Telaro saw Starfire slowing. He grew more focused and crazily enough found himself really wanting to catch up. He wasn't one for competition really. He'd rather watch usually but for some reason, D'lon had gotten to him. Oh his boyfriend would be angry later. Telaro didn't much care. He laughed, throwing caution to the wind. Allure sped up a little when Starfire turned right. Sharding Fall! He wasn't expecting that.
It took a lot of effort to turn Allure at the speed he was currently going. The colt was sweaty and completely obsessed with winning. He'd have to cool him down well later. Telaro felt the colt's power as he sprinted after the mare. He was pretty sure they were catching up again, but his eyes could be decieving him.

D'lon slowed Starfire into a brisk trot, she needed a rest, and he did not want to harm her or ruin her chances of running again. He hadn't ridden in turns and he wasn' an expert when it came to runners. D'lon knew he'd probably not win, and that was never really his point. He was competitive, but when it came right down to it, he didn't really care about winning or losing. The greenrider smiled, and gave Starfire a good pat on the neck, her eyes were wider, and she made a little grunting noise.
D'lon was happy that he mixed Telaro and Allure up a little, and the young man looked behind him, "Have you had enough yet, Telaro?!" D'lon slowed Starfire again, now there had been a chase, but still the greenrider wanted to talk to Telaro a little bit. It had been a while since he met some one new.

Allure pulled up beside Starfire, slowing down as he did so. When the runners were finally in synch, Telaro smiled over at D'lon. "Enough? Hardly. I fear if you want another race, we will have to remount. Allure and Starfire are not conditioned for racing so long. Star is a good sprinter and Allure is still training under saddle. He hasn't even begun racing."
He thought he remembered a stream up this way. "I think if we walk them a little farther there is a stream. We can let them have a drink, and take a break." Telaro would like to keep this dragonrider stranded out there with him, a little longer.

"Aww," D'lon had said slightly dissapointed that there would be no more racing, at least not with these runner beasts. Oh well, then, he didn't want to over work them anyways. The greenrider pat the mare's neck in appreciation. "She's a good girl and derves a good rest. And yes, I see she's a good sprinter. She beat your colt, didn't she?" He grinned in his small triumph.
"I think if we walk them a little farther there is a stream. We can let them have a drink, and take a break."
"What a fascinating idea!" A break would be a welcome thing indeed. And to spend it with a fine looking man like Telaro. D'lon, for the moment, was not looking for a long term relationship, but it couldn't hurt to flirt? Unless, he winced, this man was strictly straight. If he was, D'lon couldn't blame him, for the greenrider had a weakness for the soft curves of a woman. . . He snapped his attentions to the present. "How far is this stream?"

Telaro laughed. "Well he would have had her if it had been a longer distance. As it was though, I congratulate her on her win." There was no way he could deny that Starfire and D'lomn had won. He wasn't the type to argue about such things anyway. The stream was not far at all and by the time the greenrider had finished his question, Telaro was able to point to it. "Just there."
He led them to a nice spot with a couple of shading trees and a lot of lush grass for the runners. "Here we are." Telaro dismounted then loosened the saddle girth a bit so that Allure could relax. Telaro walked to the stream and splashed some water on his own face then sat down under one of the large trees. He could be quiet at times but Telaro was a social man. "So, D'lon, how old is Tamurath?"

D'lon grinned in triumph again, very glad to note that Telaro wouldn't fight him on his win. Well, okay, Starfire did all the work, but D'lon felt that in a way he won as well. He figured his greenflights would work the same way. Of course he had yet to have Tam fly, but even while the dragons did the initial "winning," the riders were won and lost as well. The greenrider saw the stream, and was eager to dismount.
He let Starfire drink and he bent over the water's edge and dipped his fingers in the cool, clear liquid. D'lon returned to follow Telaro's suit and loosen up Starfire's saddle and bridle. He knew from Tam that riding leathers and straps could rub and become uncomfortable. D'lon sat near Telaro, none too close, but none too far, either. A friendly distance. Telaro asked about Tam, and that was always a good topic for a dragonrider, "Tamurath is two turns, nearing adulthood. She's not flown yet, but I bet she will soon enough. Amenth already flew, and she's in the same class."
